brakes and rotors???
am looking at gmpp rotors and pads, also ebc. anybody had thier gmpp rotors for a while had any probs/comments. also any comments on the ebc's. my car is not track driven, just spirited road. but always important to have best brakes i can have. thanks
The pads listed with the GMPP rotors are just the stock pads that came on the car from the factory. Don't buy them unless you are just replacing your worn factory pads. Get some good aftermarket ones.
So....I have a few questions for you...
1) Any reason why you want to go with the GMPP rotors over other aftermarket brands?
2) Are you more concerned with LOOKS, or PERFORMANCE ?
If it's looks, those rotors ( and any crossed drilled rotor out there ) is a good choice. If you are looking for the best performance, then go with blanks. I know this has been debated to death on this, and various other forums, but with modern pads... unless you are going with fully organic pads that actually gas, the drilled rotors ( and slotted ) don't do much. Slotted ones each pads quicker in general.
Excessive cycling of the rotors ( heating and cooling ) that are cross drilled are also subject to stress cracks forming at the holes. Normal street driving won't do this, but if you are on the street being agressive day in and out, this COULD become an isse.
As far as EBC pads... I've heard mixed results and opinions. Some people love em, some hate em.
A good aftermarket pad for stret use is a couple of choices as well.
Carbotech: Bobcat series :Great stopping power with not too much dust. Been told by the mfgr that they are not something to use alot for tracking or auto-x due to eventual fading with repeated stops ( Panther series is better for that, but squeak a bit and dust )
Satisfied: GS series for agressive driving and or tracking. I have their Pro Ceramic model on my SS and they do good for everyday driving and occasional Auto-X.
Hawk: GREAT pads, but they are slow to market for the SS cars. Not sure what teh status is right now.
Stoptech makes good rotors that you can order as blanks, slotted or drilled... varies in price, but the blanks are under $70 front, $50 rear. That's cheaper than NAPA blanks.
Again, it's personal choice, and this is just based on the research I've done in the past 6 months on it. Mostly talking to people who have the brands on their cars ( none were Cobalts but my own ) and also doing alot of reading n various forums and product sites.
ANY of the mfgrs are easy to talk to and will let you know what the best model they offer is right for you.
Hope this helps. Sorry fo the long-winded post.

^^^thanks alot littlestealth....thats some info i was looking for. i was wanting to know if the gmpp pads were the same as the oem pads. as for the drilled and slotted, just thought it would be a nice "performance" touch. maybe it doesnt help any, but they are neat looking.
anybody out there have these on thier car, i would like to know if they have the same warping problem as the oem rotors do on some balts.
thanks

Bump!
Anyone on here with the GMPP drilled and slotted rotors have opinions or feedback? Since my stock rotors are now warping (28k miles), I'd like to just go ahead and replace them with something better. Considering these for warranty reasons (since I've voided half of my warranty else where on the car, anyways).
