Brembo Pin HELP!

Brembo Pin HELP!

I was changing out my factory pad's for HAWK HPS pads. Everything was going perfect until i got to the front right wheel. I used my Punch to push out the top pin and the pin BROKE in the caliper.... Does anyone know the part number for the pins that hold the pad in? Any suggestions on how to get a set fast? I changed all my breaks but, the front right because the damn pin broke.... I ordered a set from GM hoever, they are on national back order..

Questions:
What is the GM part number?
Can I get a set from Brembo?
Any 3rd party parts??

Thanks to anyone that can help!

I'm confused, and strangely fascinated. I really don't see how you can snap or bend one of the pins. Since the pin has to be hit towards the inside of the car, you are forced to hit it through the small hole in the caliper. It should not be possible to bend the pin with a proper sized drift. Besides, you only need to move the pin about 1/2 inch before you can remove it by hand.

I really am curious.

Ok.. I was able to successfully SMASH the point of the pin into the caliper. I hit it once and the tip broke off. Then i kept trying to punch it out from there and it just wasn't moving any further. I should get the new parts tomorrow. I'm going to drill out the front portion of the pin and install the new one.

Even if i got it out i still wanted to get a new pin just because the way it looked. Anyway, it should be fixed this weekend

this sounds like an extraordinarily bad hack job in the extreme. I suggest you get qualified help to fix your car and in future dont touch it.

Whoah...

FYI - if you've damaged the caliper, I would not trust it for high speed or repeated braking. It's one thing if you **** up the motor, exhaust, or some other part. If you lose braking, you are in serious trouble.

I'm stunned.

Ok i must of given a bad description of what had happened. The pin broke.... that's it... The caliper is OK. I just am not able to get the Pin out now because i don't have the normal surface to punch it out. AGAIN the caliper is not broke or damaged lol. I did not want to remove the pin once it was broke because i had nothing to replace it with. Once the new part comes in I will completely remove the broken pin.

I don't understand what's going on. Earlier in the thread you mentioned that you need touch up paint. That implies that you dinged the caliper. If the pointed end, or in this case, once pointed end, is not seated into the opposite side of the caliper, then the pin can be removed by hand. Just press down the spring clip, and pull the pin out. If you cannot move the pin by hand after pressing the spring clip down, something is wrong. Stop, and post pics so we can help.

If you're trying to put the pin back in, you put one pin in first, by hand, until it's starting to seat into the hole on the opposite side. It goes from the inside of the car and should point to the outside. Give it a few taps with small hammer. I prefer to place something on top of the end of the pin to make sure I don't whack the caliper.

Once the first pin is in, then you put the spring clip in place, and then while pressing the spring clip down, you seat the second pin, BY HAND. If you can't see the pointy end in the hole facing towards the outside of the car, do not hit it! You will damage the pin and the caliper.

Thanks for the pointers. I installed the front driver side with no issue what so ever and, the rears were very simple. I will be sure to be more careful with the fronts in the future.

Back from the dead, but I ran into this myself. I was changing the rotors and pads on all four wheels. The rear rotors and pads went in easy. I thought the Brembos would be the easiest. WRONG. On both front calipers, only one of the pins came out. Each caliper had a pin frozen. The pin actually bent on both instead of popping out the other side.

Luckily, the pad kit came with new pins, but they did not match perfectly. They were a little shorter. I think I will buy the above listed kit. Thanks for the link.

Did you buy your pads from Autozone? I've been getting my pads there since I changed them the first time (like 4 sets now, I go through these things like crazy)... and every set so far has had pins with them that are WAY too short... not usable at all.

Yes, the Cmax are the Autozone premium ceramic pads. I use them on all my cars with new slotted rotors. Combo works great and no brake dust.

Yeah, the pins are way too short. The pads match our application, but the pins don't. Called tech support and they do not list on pads for Cobalt SS for 2008+, although their computers say otherwise. Obviously, the pin issue. I ordered new pins from a forum sponsor on here.

I suggest you folks soak the inside pin with a high quality penetrating oil before removal. let it soak.

amazing what happens with corrosion...

No biggie on breaking the pins, but what worried me is the hardware kit that came with my pads had replacement pins....that were too short!
