Brembo Powdercoat Options
Brembo Powdercoat Options
I am looking to upgrade the front brakes to SS TC Brembo. So I am planning on buying a new set. Prior to installing them, I want to get them powdercoated since the stock chalky black looks like crap. For those that have had their Brembos powdercoated, who did you all use to do them? Also, how much did the powdercoating work itself cost?
I am guessing the seals and everything else has to be dissasembled prior, right?

AFAIK Powell does an exchange basis. You wouldn't have to disassemble the calipers. Heck, you could probably buy new ones from C.E.D. and have them drop shipped right to John.
What PRS does is get new calipers then has them powdercoated because if you try to powdercoat used calipers you're pretty much going to have to rebuild them because it will mess with the seals in them or something like that, plus any brake fluid that might be on the outside will cause the coating to not stick. If you haven't picked up a set of calipers contact John and he can get you a new set and get them coated as well.
P/C brakes isnt a cheap option fyi, expect to pay alot of coin, more than getting your rims p/c'd...
powell is good because he has an exchange program. and they gotta be rebuilt after.
i painted mine with g2 paint been to 3 track days so far and havent changed color or melted off cept the top by the brake bleeder is peeling away probably from excessive fluid lol

Then again if its show you want thats fine, personally i think brembos for show isnt worth the cost. Made to perform
exactly. after a track day in my STI the brembo words turned a darker red and the gold shine went away. Same happened on a friends evo 9, 1 day at Road America with Hawk Track pads they wend from red to black lol.

Anyone here have their Brembos powdercoats by Powell and can post pics, off the car and installed? I am curious to see the quality of the work. I was planning on getting the CED kit, so maybe I'll just have it sent to them for PC
Most TCs I have seen have Brembos that have turned more of a whitish grey than the dull black they were when new. I don't know if its from the combination of heat and outdoor exposure, or from agressive wheels cleaners, but is common from what I have seen. I am going gloss black or silver, so I think those should be fine when factoring in heat from braking.

Wheel cleaners are to blame if the caliper is turning chalky.

No discoloration for me. This is after about a year of using a proper wheel cleaner, P21S. Also lots of very high temp track work:

Those things look fantastic John. If I decide to go with the Brembo swap I know where I'll be sending them. Random side question. In the last pic with the green, does anyone know what brand of lugs those are?
