Car can't be aligned?

So I brought my car in today to get an alignment. I was told that it couldn't be aligned because the front AND rear were so far out of spec. There is apparently damage to front and rear suspension components.

Anotherwords, how fucked am I? And yes this is in relation to the damage caused by Denooyer Chevrolet in Albany, seen in this thread:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/lounge-42/dealerships-suck-please-read-details-photos-inside-97923/

DISCUSS.

I'm going there tomorrow. I'm just hoping they dont say "that occured after the impact, not our fault."

My dad's going to demand to see proof that the car was aligned (since they said it was), and then bitch them out since it obviously wasn't.

just be forceful with them, dont be bashful/shy/nervous. Tell them they fucked your **** up, and to fix it, or they will hear from your lawyer

Bro, if it were my car, i'd park it right in front of the front door and raise hell right in the middle of the show room so everyone else there would know what happened.

I would demand that every last thing is within .001" of factory spec or I'm suing

apparently you have never aligned a vehicle, because that is damn near impossible because ive never heard of a machine that reads that small of a measurement... also the rear of cobalts pending on model cannot be adjusted without shims and unless something has recently changed i believe that the ss's cannot be aligned in the rear at all.

that blows!!! number one rule when you have a vehicle aligned always get a printout, and watch the bastards to make sure that they are not just bumpin tires to get it in specification.

you had impact on the rear, that probably the reason the said it was unalignable.

Correct you are sir. I got the printout at the one dealer, but not from the one who originally "aligned" it.

When my car got fixed in early 2006 I got a printout of the chassis with the stock alignments, and what mine were and I believe the tolerances were down to ~.005"

thats one badass machine, lol. dealer may have something like that but old sears only measured to hundredths.... i couldnt imagine having to align say a f150 or a chevy 1500 to thousandths, id shoot myself, lol.

When the rear trailing arm sustains damage enough to affect the alignment it has to be replaced. GM does not even list the capability to shim any cobalt rear.

Your vehicle sustained a relatively serious impact to the drivers rear quarter and both drivers side wheels. Denooyer Chevrolet is responsible for this damage because it happened on their lot. Also chances are if the impact was great enough to knock the car out of alignment it most likely damaged both drivers side hubs. If they are loose or making noise they are responsible for those parts as well. Talk to the service manager calmly at first, be civil, but if they try and roll it over on you break it off in their ass. Damage occurred to your car under their care. Its their baby now, they are responsible

according to our hunter alignment machine full contact shims (a brown one i believe) can be used to somewhat align the rear of cobalts with drum brakes, but shims are so damn unaccurate that they really are not worth the money to use. now mind you that was on the 06 update, so they may have changed it since then.

Alignments specs are in degrees, not inches. Every alignment machine i've used (Hunter, John Bean, and Beissbarth models), will show nothing more precise than a tenth of a degree.

Bottom line, if your suspension is screwed up to the point that it can't be aligned, the dealership ought to fix it for free. If not, you should contact the agency in your state that licenses automotive repair shops. I know in CA, if you even hint at filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair, they will immediately change their tune and do what they can to make you happy.

Brought it to the dealer that fucked up my car. They put it on their alignment rack and the back end believe it or not was perfectly fine. It was the driver side front thats fucked (what I figured). It needs a control arm and steering knuckle because apparently both are bent. Of course they wont cover it. Talking with manager of the dealer wednesday or thursday, going to bitch and bitch until they cover it like they ******* should. (what ever happened to people having good will?)

If it hit hard enough to **** the lower control arm and knuckle you need a hub. Add that to the list.
