DC Strut Bar Installed

Got my DC Strut bar installed which was fairly easy with the help of my brother but I went ahead to torque the nuts to spec on the install page but one of them broke It's the one closest to the front on the passanger side. Kinda pissed me off and was wondering will this effect anything? I am thinking of getting the bolt retapped and screw another one in it's place. Think that would work?

Please advise. I will show pictures shortly.

Definitely get it fixed, for now I don't know how much of a problem it should be but I'd get it fixed as soon as you can though

I finally uploaded my install pics from the strut bar. I installed mine Wednesday and Thursday (yeah it took 2 days because of unforseen problems...).

Hehehe, thanks!

Quick question for everyone with this on their cars, do you think it makes the torque steer more noticable? I can't decide if it's the strut bar or if I'm just paying that much more attention to the handling. I'm thinking about picking up some torque braces in the future so it shouldn't be a problem anyway...just wondering though.

The service manual states that the torque spec for the nuts is 20 Nˇm (15 lb ft), is this the torque spec you applied when you broke one of the studs?

I'm wondering because I plan on ordering my strut brace Monday and don't want to have the same problem when I install it.

No, actually it does make a marked difference. I can take corners harder than I did before, I drive the same way twice a week to and from class and I'm finding at LEAST 5-10 mph higher in hard turns before the tires start to skid. You can definitely feel the torque steer more too, I had two friends in the car today and one drove it and she agreed that the torque steer was more noticable now than it was before the brace was on.

How much does this bad boy weigh? I was looking around and I see that this is made out of steel as opposed to CF or aluminum. I was wondering is there is a considerable weight difference between the two.

Damn it I weighed mine before I put it on and I can't remember. I want to say like 4lbs? It's not too too much. You definitely want something rigid and to me 4lbs isn't all that much.

Girls that actually know car terms and how to drive stick? This is awesome.

I noticed in your other post that you installed it yourself. I have meet girls that didn't even know how to pump gas!

I wish you, and your friends, lived near me.

I fixed mine today. The bolts are are really flimsy. I did torque to spec as I stated in my first post. It states to torque them to 16lbs on the instructions.

For those who break the bolts I have good news, it only utlilizes a small crappy bolt stud that has a bolt style under neath the strut tower and has a washer on the top. My dad helped me use a tap to pop it off and re insert a new bolt that is 10x more durable then the stockers it literally took 5 minutes to fix. You can pick these up at the auto store for about a $1. They are much better then the stockers if you want to replace all of them.

I will post pictures of the strut bar tomorrow when I have a chance. It does help with those sprited turns that almost utlize a 75 degree angle

LOL, yep. Me and my 2 best friends all drive stick, although the one doesn't know car terms to save her but she's in the army so she gets to blow stuff up, which is still cool. The other friend and I race together, work on cars together, etc. In fact we're having a garage day next weekend...that's our version of "girls night out"

Yep, I like to do as much as possible myself. My problem is lack of workspace (I have barely a one-car garage and my driveway is too steep to work in) and lack of tools. My family has a dealership, but it's over an hour away so I don't get to do as much of my own work as I would like to, but it's still OK.

sneaky, glad to hear you took care of the bolt problem - can't wait to see the pics. I had been warned ahead of time that the bolts were flimsy so I was extra careful when I torqued them and just eased them to spec whenever I started to feel them get tight and I didn't have a problem at all (except that rear bolt on the passenger side, where the plastic kind of hung over it, that was a little tight getting the torque wrench on...)

The strut bar is a good compliment to the K&N cold air intake in terms of dress up. I want to buy some things next week fro m modern co since like the carbon fiber Ecotec Supercharged carbon fiber bezel and the replacement oil cap.

I didn't have to take off the **** they mentioned in the instructions it was a matter of moving the strut bar over the bolts after the screws are off and getting the strut bar over the bolts required a rubber mallet and a flat head screw driver.

Yep, I agree. They said 5 business days for mine, I wasn't expecting it until Friday (since I bought it on a Friday) but I had it at my door waiting for me on Wednesday.

I'm rockin on the stock suspension and it's stayin that way, The handling is perfect to me imo. The DC Strut Bar helps greatly by reducing the the flexing around those Michigan lefts here. *phew* best $90 somethin bucks ever spent.

I'm with sneaky, the stock suspension works awesome for me, nice and stiff. The only mod I have is the strut bar. Down the road I'll probably look into an anti-roll kit for the auto-x course.
