Factory shocks making noise?

Wasn't sure if I should post this in the problems section or here, but oh well. Basically, my shocks are making creaking noises, mostly when its cold out. Now, I don't mean like 20 below, I m talking about when its maybe 40 out or colder. It more noticeable when I m leaving the parking garage at work, but also when going over bumps at city speeds(30mph and less). Should I take it in to have them check it out? My car only has about 15K miles on it, and they are mostly highway miles. I bought progress springs, but I don't want to install them yet if its only going to make it worse, only to have the stealership say it voided the warranty on the shocks.

It's completely normal. The cold just has an affect on the inards of the shocks/struts. When I first leave my house @ 430 in the morning and come to my first stoplight, I hear three taps, like someone was standing at the back of my car tapping on the trunk. It's just the suspension settleing in because of the cold. When it's 60 or above, there's no creaking whatsoever.

I think you're right. It taps and creaks a little, and then it stops. However, when it was about 60-70ish outside, no noises. thanks for the reassurance.

happens to me as well. when it's a little chilly out they get noisy on bumps or i get the knocking when I come to a stop. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Ok, well, glad to hear it, I was worried that lowering the car would make it worse. Does any one with a decent drop care to comment? Is the noise worse?

Well I brought it into GM twice, no dice.
Turns out that for some odd reason, when it's cold outside and I hit a bump, the front end goes lower than usual and it scrapes the front air dam.

That's what the GM guy told me anyways.

Hey guys. My cobalt has 85,000 kms, been lowered 2" since christmas. I still have the noise. Going to look into some different shocks and struts. Does anyone know if 2.0 SS/SC shocks and struts will fit a 2.2?

Thanks!
Stu
