FE3 vs. FE5

I know one comes on the g85(FE5) and one comes on all other SS's...

...and I know the FE5 has gas charged struts/shocks or w/e...

Any other diffrences?

Actualy if I remember correctly the FE3 and FE5 use the same struts. I could be wrong so if anyone has the part #'s please correct me.

I know the sway bars are different and so are the axles.

Whos are yellow? I've dropped both and I've never seen yellow struts yet. Could be a different year car I guess.

The Struts and Shocks and Springs are the Same.

Fe5 Has a Different Steering Rack and a bigger front sway bar.

I remember when I bought my car, I was checking out an 06 G85 package SS/SC.

Taking a quick glance at the rear struts...they were yellow...

IIRC the sway bar is different enough that it uses a different endlink, too.

You're incorrect, the FE5 comes on ALL supercharged SS's, the FE3 is for the non-supercharged 2.4.

Differences are different control arms, larger front and rear sway bars, and axels. I think there are a few more as well. From driving both the FE5 seems to use a stiffer spring rate as well.

Yes it does, but the difference is in the front struts and the mounting point I believe. I don't see them hanging the sway bar that much lower. There's a good 3-4" difference in length on the endlinks.

I thought all Cobalts didn't have a rear sway bar...somebody is gonna get freaked out by me when I am under their SS/SC

They both use the same springs, I know that much

So I assume the conclusion is that FE3 and FE5 have the same springs. OK. Now if I was to buy used from someone, how can I tell the difference if I want only the springs from a FE5? Are there markings, color, etc?

TIA

They are the same springs...why would the same springs be marked differently?

Thank you. One last one. From a search, someone also said the springs are 1.23" lower than the FE1 (from what they were told).

Is this true?

EVERY Cobalt off the line has a rear sway bar. It runs inside of the torsion beam. Look inside the triangle kinda lookin part and there it is.

I think the reason why people don't think it has one is that the aftermarket rears do not REPLACE the rear sway, they're installed in addition to.

I know that when you do aftermarket springs, you'll need new stronger shocks. Would the FE1 shocks work with FE3/FE5 springs?

If I put my FE3 springs onto my girls LS, would it drop it any, or what? Are the f/r FE5 sway bars a good mod to do to the FE3, or do they not do as much without the other supporting parts? I'm getting Eibach lowering springs and just want to see what's up.

If you're looking for better handling, an aftermarket rear is a better choice. Leave the front alone. The only reason to do the front is if you're really looking to be competitive on a national level. Other than that, just leave it be and go with a bigger aftermarket rear bar.

What price are we talking? i mean, it handles good now, and if it's like 200 for a new rear, I'd rather just buy the springs. lol.

I wanna say like $150? It's not very much, but it makes a big difference.

whats up with the FE3 springs on an FE1 car? No supporting mods (struts, strut bar, etc). What'll be different about it?

SS springs basically = Eibach ProKit or very very close to it.

What was confusing? FE3 springs on FE1 car. Springs only.

So in other words, it'd be just like you dropped it an inch or so? That's look real good on my girls LS...
