Which front pads should I get for auto-x?

Which pads do you think perform better for autocrossing and road racing? (I cannot change anything but the pads, according to the SCCA rules for my class.)

These: Hawk HPS Perfromance

Or these: EBC Green Stuff

EBC Green or Red Stuff would probably be the best.

Not to be a bother, but in a quick sentence or two, why?

You know what, nevermind mind the explanation. I will just take your word for it.

Not a bother at all. I was looking to get either the EBC Green or Red (I noticed only for 2.0L tho) Stuff pads. So I went to a friend of mine who owns a performance/body shop to see which he would suggest. He told me that both are great products and would be great for autoX due to their stopping abilities, hi temp. cooling/durability, and the fact that they were ceramic or semi-ceramic. I don't know much about the Hawk pads, but have only heard great things about the EBC brake pads. BTW I didn't get them bc they were'nt in stock and I needed pads badly.

Ok, sounds good. Is there anyone who disputes this. If not within a few days, I will be getting the EBC Green Stuff.

I'd have to go against the recommendations here. I've used both the green stuff and hawk HPS pads and for auto-xing and road racing I'd go with the HPS. I find that even though their initial bite isn't as strong, they don't fade as quickly and are MUCH easier to modulate. I've found with the green stufft hat once you hit them, they bite instantly and really throw the car off balance and then fade a bit towardst he end while the HPS pads seem to get stronger and allow you to be a bit more aggressive with your braking style. All these experiences are from a 2001 GTI VR6 which is a good 200 lbs heavier than our cars with much heavier rolling gear (stupid wheels).

In my eyes, green stuff is a great oem replacement, a tad beter than Mintex RedBox but no exactly a high performance pad meant for racing. I found the HPS to be a good compromise between dedicated race pads and everyday driving pads.

well if your looking for a better pad, that will perform for Auto-X, you should be looking into the Red Stuff, better were carachteristics, you'll lose a little initial bit, because there a ceramic pad, but as the temps get higher, they perform much better.

keep the green stuff as a street pad.

With this ^^^^^^^^^ post being made, I am going to need more input from people on this site. The quoted post seems to put up a good argument for the HPS pads.

It is causing me to second guess which pads to get, which can become irritating. But all the info I can get is helpful, so I will live with the irritation until I can get a firm backing behind one pad or the other.

edit: BTW, I do not plan on switching pads for racing and then back for road driving. I plan on keeping the same pads on for all driving and racing.

HPS all the way!!! I had them matched up with powerslot rotors on my sunbird and they worked awesome for autoxross..Also my buddy and my girlfriend have them on both of their neons (with stock rotors) and love em...the only thing is with the sloted rotors I only got about 10k out of the pads but that was with 5 or so autox events.

I am not allowed to change rotors or anything but pads, according to rules of my SCCA autocross class.

the power slots are OEM replacements, exact same spec's and sizes, just slotted. and coated for more protection.

many people are haveing problems with the factory rotors.
I had to replace the front rotors when I replaced my pads, thats how bad they were
