Ground Control Coilovers???
Ground Control Coilovers???
I am debating whether to get ground control coilovers for my ss, but don't know how low they will actually go and if they are any good!! Has anyone used them, or know what i can expect?
Sleeves? does that mean they are not a full kit? whats the difference?
In other words to get the best benefit we would mix and match, go out and get a set of koni struts and then put the coilover sleeves on top of them. so you would have koni struts with ground controls coilovers with eibach springs. now it makes sense that its only 400. cuz to get the real benefit you would have to spend minimum another 5 or 600 to get a real set of shocks
ground control definitely makes quality products, the best thing is once you have the threaded sleeve you can get hypercoil springs that match in dimension but in any spring rate you want. next autox season im looking to have 500lb springs in front and 600 in back, no more body roll.

oh ok so those are just sleeves so i am curious have to get those springs then struts right so all together you would have somewhere in the area 600-800 for an awsome set up but any word on the tein coilovers for us
Finally, Ground Control made us some coilovers! Goooodbye sportlines! I've been waiting for Ground Control to throw some goodness our way!
Ground Control coilovers are sleeve and spring style coilovers. They aren't full coilovers, as they do not include a shock/strut. Rather, you pair them with a stock/aftermarket shock/strut. Think of them as height adjustable lowering springs. For those looking to have height adjustability like that of full coilover, but aren't neccesarily after the other performance benefits of a full coilover, these are perfect.
And why is the price "sketchy" OrngBalt?? All Ground Control coilovers are about that price. If springs cost around $250, and full coilovers cost $750+, then $400 sounds exactly right for the "in between" solution. That extra $350 you'd be paying for full coilovers is paying for the shocks/struts that are included in a full coilover.
Another good thing is Ground Control uses Eibach's springs in their sleeve and spring coilovers, so the quality is top notch.
I can't believe some people haven't heard of Ground Control!!! They've been making sleeve and spring style coilovers for all popular makes/models of cars for years and years. Nopi has always been a big distributor of them.....always had them in their e-catalog.
And I really can't believe people didn't know what a sleeve and spring style coilover was. Its not like they're anything new......just new for a Cobalt I guess. Skunk 2 is another big brand that makes sleeve and spring coilovers for numerous models of cars. My friend Pat has the Skunk 2's on his Prelude, along with Tokico Illuminas.
Ground Control FTW!!!!!

I didn't see anyone mention it but I'd imagine for the Cobalt front struts you have to grind/cut/otherwise remove the spring perches from the strut body (just like the J-Body) before you slip the coilover sleeve over it. The sleeves are precisely tapered and only slide down so far before they stop in the right place. The rear should be a slam dunk.
I drove ocassionally in the winter with no problem. The thing to consider in winter is keeping the strut shafts covered to keep the elements off of them. I've seen people run without the boot covers. Also sand and dirt will collect on the threaded sleeves and you'll have to hose them off before changing your ride height without issue.
Yeah but it can be a real bitch to get the sleeve back off the strut body, they can really get wedged on there. I had mine on Tokicos and then Mantapart struts and I remember some four letter words being yelled.
