H&R Race Springs SS/TC? (Dead Horse..I Know)

I'm beating this horse AGAIN!!!

My question regarding springs is: Has anyone installed the H&R RACE (NOT SPORT) springs on their 08-10 Cobalt SS/TC (NOT SS/SC)?

My questions are:

1. Would these be okay on the stock ss/tc struts, since they are better than the ss/sc struts?
2. Would camber needed to be adjusted at all?
3. Would these be okay on 225/40/18 tires or would thinner tires be better?

If anybody has decent pics of drop with the H&R Race springs? I have only seen 1 car with them and that was Sharkey.

No worries, lol. Yeh its the sports. Everytime I post about H&R springs you help out, which is cool. Anyways, I know they will settle some, but I still would like to see if the race springs would work.

They lower an extra half inch more in the front, and almost a quarter inch more in the back. After settling, it would probably barely tuck the front and almost tuck the back.

I thought Hugo(used to have an ss/tc but it was totaled) had the race springs...they were red. I think his name on here is BoostedSSCobalt or something...I'll let you know, he could probably tell you more. The weird thing is mine sat lower than his did.

Race springs are most likely higher since they are a stiffer spring rate. Thats how the Pro-Kit vs Sportlines go...

Yeh...you guys are right. I was looking at drop height of the cobalt ss 2.4. Stoopid me. I saw the numbers were right above the ss/tc numbers. I am guessing the ride height on the 06-08 SS 2.4 sit higher stock, than the tc and sc do, eh?

i know on the supercharged models the race springs sit lower then the sports but its not recommend with oem struts. its recommended with something like konis. i run the sports just like rissa. i believe the ss-sc race springs provide a 2.0drop up front and a 1.6in the rear, where as the sports are 1.6f 1.4r

Since I am not familiar with the specs on those springs why dont you post the drop specs of them? I am running 245's with a 2/2.5 drop(soon to be 3/2.5) so I may be able to give you an idea about rubbing issues, ect.

The Race springs sit higher than street (for some strange reasoning) so I went with Sport instead...25k+ miles with OEM struts, no problems so far...thinking of COs next year if I can find a salt car...

I have the H&R red springs... i didnt know they were called the race ones though. I used the ones i had with my LSJ and put the LNF struts and shoxs on them, they seem to be fine. A nice low tuck. Il put a pic up in a sec of me next to a sstocker

The race springs are probably higher because they keep the roll center of the car closer to stock whilst maintaining much stiffer spring rates. This allows for optimal handling and the necessary suspension travel when racing. If you're sitting too low and you hit the circuit, the travel is reduced and you might hit bump-stops on the rumble-strips when apexing. It's just an opinion, but it's logical for me lol. When you see a race car, they aren't necessarily slammed, they always seem to have about an inch of wheel-gap (in the front at least). Let me know what you decide to use and how the install goes! I'm definitely interested

H&R race springs are NOT higher than the sport springs, whatever Powell or anyone says.

Doesnt really make sense, because they say you can have a spring low and handle good, well H&R is saying you can! Someone that has had pedders or YYZ try them out and let us know how they are.

show me where I said that please. I did not. You are going to travel a long road finding someone to spend money to replace progressive rate YYZ springs made in the USA with H&R race springs or whatever springs you talk of.

The Grand Am race cars had more ride travel than stock, but were lower than most cars. This was because the drop was built into the axle at the rear, and the knuckle attachment at the front. The springs were longer than stock at the front.

You cant have great handling in a production car without acceptable suspension travel, and thats a fact.
