Help with lowering springs

Ok, so I'm really considering buying a set of eibach sportlines. I really like the look of the lowered cars, and how it closes up that unsightly wheel well gap. Now I love the stock handling of this car and would not want to sacrifice that for anything, and I already find the ride to be pretty stiff and rough on un even roads.

I do not want to fork out the money for coil overs as this is just a daily driver, but will a regret lowering a daily driver? Will my ride quality suck, is stock simpy better? I want to hear feedback from people who have lowered there daily drivers and what they think.

You will probably like the sportlines or any other spring set out there when driving on nice roads, but you might hate and regret buying them when rolling on bad roads; That goes for coilovers too.
Below is a little score board for you, this is a rough estimate of my experience, so it will vary depending on who you ask, but anybody with some experience on all 3 suspensions will agree with stock being on top.

Handling all types of road defects:
- Stock suspension 10 points
- Coilovers 4 to 7 points.
- Springs 4 to 6 points.

I'm giving coilovers a little more than springs because you can choose the perfect spring rate for the damping.
You have to compromise a lot if you decide to go with the lowered look. I have coilovers now and I can't complain, but stock is by far king on this one.

I'm lowered on h&r springs and koni yellow shocks. I have no regrets. I drive 365 through winter in new England too unlike the wimps out there. Handeling is slightly stiffer than stock but its expected. Handles great through corners.

Whatever buddy. Just cause yours haven't yet doesn't mean others haven't. What ever happened to people wanting good suspension instead of low rider status?

Not to mention H&R's have a terrible ride quality. Probably the worst out of any lowering spring made for this car.

I had sportlines. I liked them alot, and had no problems with them. I just put my new stance coilovers on today and it looks hella sexy now!! Just gotta adjust my rears so my exhaust stops smacking my axle...

Wrong again. Ride quality is far from terrible. You are talking to someone who's had them on MT past three vehicles. Rissa has no axle bind either. Tell me who has had it as a direct result from h & r springs with proof. Don't worry ill wait.remember I'm an owner of them. Are you?

Had them on my vehicle before Pedders. You could hit a crack in the road and it would feel like the whole front end of the car was coming apart. Then I learned what coil bind was and how those springs were such a downgrade from factory. Only thing they were good at was for looks. But what would I know, I just owned both and read all the Powell suspension threads on the other cobalt forum.

Not trying to argue here. Drop looks great no doubt. But it is a suspension downgrade that can cause axle and strut problems.

I hear ya. Nothing wrong with a friendly debate. I have upgraded struts. I havnt had a problem with axle bind and car has over 80k miles on it. I'm not saying they'll out handle this or that. Just That I personally have no problems

Rack spacers aren't necessary for the full FE5 package unless you're replacing the FE5 springs with actual lowering springs.

i dont see why the fe5's for earlier years would be more expensive then the newer ones

Interesting. Did you have rack spacers and aftermarket struts?
