KW V2 or Stance GR+ for handling
KW V2 or Stance GR+ for handling
rather than drop 500+ on a set of Koni's and have to hack up my stock struts and what not I'm considering selling my Pedders and FE5 setup and going with coilovers... I've always wished the car was a HAIR lower but I'd like the car to handle better as well. with that said i've seen people say the Stance handle great but the question is... which is better? both are single adjustable on rebound only.
I got to reading more and looking at what people like wangspeed and Powell said... i ordered a pair of rear Koni yellows. all the KW's would do is keep my car about as it is now and let me adjust the height... and be 1500 poorer...
man if i could afford it i would get the stance because they get lower n handle close to KW plus i doubt i will take a 4hr drive often to the track to autocross my car enough to fullu benefit. stance are lower kw i think handles better so its on you which is a hair more important but for street your current pedders with koni may be a very gud combo, but may not be as low as u might think.
Out of the choices, you made the best one by ordering Koni, it is the best choice for performance, just like you said, John and wangspeed both pointed out that all coils do is make you a tad lower...
Plus, with Koni setup you'll be ready for YYZ springs if you will want to go that route someday!

hopefully the YYZ rev2 springs will be a little bit lower... if they are I'll be ordering a set of them... i'm kind of surprised PRS doesnt sell any packages... Hardcore Bar, YYZ springs and Koni's would be an awesome combo to have show up at your door.
yeah..
basically what I get out of all the spring vs. YYZ talk is that out of the springs YYZ's are really the only ones guaranteed to perform better than the stock Fe5 springs and much of that is due to it being the only progressive rated spring on the market for us. Ride height is really the only negative for those that want springs that go low
now when you compare the YYZ vs coils its a bit more complicated. I think more of the increased "handling" people may feel from coils is just from the car having a lower center of gravity. the car is obviously going to feel more planted being so low, but you are sacraficing too much suspension travel at the same time. Hit a bump hard or take a corner at a good speed and the handling just simply isnt there due to the small amount of travel with the current coilover systems available to us in the cobalt market. People will argue that "racecars have coilovers so they must be best", but racecars also have coilover/suspension/handling setups custom made to the car where we more or less have to "work with what we have, however good/bad it may be". I'm very certain some custom coilover/suspesion setups could be designed that would outperform YYZ's but the cost to do that just isnt realistic
with all that said this is really what it comes down to, YOU! everyone has different preferances so a poll shouldnt be changing what is more important to you.
If you want strictly perfomance, go with YYZ's
If you want a fairly decent overall handling low setup, go coilovers
If you want to just be low for cheap, go other brand of springs.
I love the balance of the YYZ's with my hardcore bar. and for DD all 4 seasons the ride height is something I like honestly. I can see how the base models (like my LT) had a rediculous looking ride height (hence the reason I took the most cost effective way and dropped it on Progress springs with pleasant results over the Fe1 setup), but I think the stock fe5 stance of the SS's look fine for as much "omgz 4x4" flaak they get on here

It sounds like a pain, but it's not that hard, if you're familiar with work on a car.
