Major front end clunking over bumps!

To make a long story short ive attched pictures of what i believe the problem is. It seems like control arm bushings from what i gather is a notorious problem with these cars. MY question is, is this something that can be changed out yourself or do you need to bring it to a shop? what have other people done in this situation? From what i also hear the part is quite cheap at the dealership, is polyeurthane a good idea or should i stick with another set of stock ones?

Thanks in advance
Chuck

I have an 06 2.4L SS with 40,000 and I just put new tires, front rotors, front and rear brakes, and passenger side wheel bearing on this car. I believe my struts are bad because I'm getting rattling noisees every time we hit a little bump. I liked this car when I first got it, but it has become a straight nightmare and a pocket killer when it comes to fixing this car and I do all my work myself. I don't see foreign cars with much trouble at 40,000 miles.

FE1 cars do have a bit of a history of popping LCA bushings out. New ones are dirt cheap but they need to be pressed in. AVOID poly control arm bushings like the plague they are.

EDIT: those pics definatiely showed popped bushings

A control arm bushing is exactly what it sounds like. I had to replace them after only 20k miles. mine would knock and clunk over every bump but after I had the dealership replace them under warranty the sound stopped. Now my suspension just squeaks all the time. If I were you I would try to find ones better than stock if you can so you don't have to replace them again.

Had mine give way after 17,000, was told that this is more prone in the colder, snowier climates.

Mine does it for a mile or 2 after I have had it on a lift or jacked up. Smooth sailing after that.
