on the market for shocks/struts/springs

im on the market for new shocks, struts and springs. i have a 2005 cobalt ls with 46,000 miles. im not really looking for an expensive aftermarket setup (like konis), but i also dont want to slap on the same crappy stock parts that were already on my car. my thoughts are to replace my shocks, struts and springs with a fe5 (ss/sc) or a fe3 (ss/na) set up. (i think i named those correctly). basically my goal is to make the car drive smoother more than sportier. (if that makes sense lol)

now my questions are, where can i find these set ups, more specifically the fe3 (i know you can find the fe5 setup on crateenginedepot). and will i need to replace anything else (such as the control arms) or will i be fine just simply replacing my stock shocks, struts and springs with new shocks, struts and springs?

i understand that its a good setup. but when i can get an fe5 setup for $500 shipped from crateenginedepot, or an fe3 setup for less than $400, that $400-500 that im saving from not getting a koni set up for 900 means a lot.....

i dont plan on doing autocross, and in all honesty, im not worried about lowering the car a whole lot either. im just looking for a new set up that is a small step up from the stock ls setup.

yeah tokico is planing on coming out with 2 different linups, their HP which is factory replacement setup but more aggressive, so it can handle the drop, not meant for all out racing just accassional, it will support lowering springs, and they plan on their D-spec setup which is like koni's competitor, and they will be full replacements. the more people keep calling and bugging faster they'll work on gettin em out. heres their number 5622952500 hit em up and bug em that shows interest.

well thats good news. i talked to one of the guys that works the auto shop next door to my work and he told me the same thing.

so now its basically a waiting game for a few more months to see what kinda prices this new company comes out with on their struts/shocks setup.

check schrams, and also check junk yards.

if ur looking for replacements then it should be good to check for totalled cobalts no matter what year or model, they will be as good or better than the ones u have on.

has anyone here heard of a company called monroe? i know they arent a big aftermarket company, but like i said earlier in this thread, its not like im using my car for autocross or nething crazy. i already checked on their site and they do offer shocks/struts for the 2.2 cobalts.

just wondering if anyone has heard anything good/bad about them.

Monroe is a big company makes great shocks and struts. I put a set of monroe sensatrak shocks on my old Monte SS and made a big difference, and I also had some reflex shiocks on a Silverado. I would say anything they sell is going to be good for a comfortable daily driver and better handling than stock.
I think if i had an LS and i had the urge to upgrade the suspension like you i would go with SS 2.4 parts like you were thinking about doing, the balance between ride and handling on my stock suspension is just about perfect i think. Its hard to tell what you're getting into when you start fooling around with suspension parts, every time i do i end up with a shitty ride and it takes away from the fun of being able to handle better.

Gmpartsdirect.com has the FE5 struts and shocks. Heres the links, search around in the catalog, find what you want. As for the FE3 parts gmparts direct lists the rear shocks but not the front struts. Try the dealer for those.

i just thought of this, are you sure that fe5 (ss/sc) struts would even work on my 2.2?

I've been running them on my 2.2 with sportlines for almost 20,000 miles now. Still as good as the day I put them in. Also If I remember correctly the only difference between the FE3 and FE5 set ups is the front swaybar and the rear trailing arm. The struts and shocks are the same. There is a post on here with that info, I think its a sticky. BTW check my signature, Thats what I have done so far, still got plans and experiments to do.
