Need a better ride
Need a better ride
Ok so I apologize as I'm sure this has been asked many times before...
Anyway I have had H&R springs on the car for well over a year now and I love the drop and handling...but the ride is getting bad. Turns like its on rails but god forbid if I come across a bumpy/poorly maintained road (ie downtown Houston).
What suggestions do you guys have as to help the comfort of the ride but keep the lowered look? Coilovers? Struts? if so what brands?
Sorry if this seems like a common question, I am relatively useless when it comes to suspensions.
Thanks.

i recently went from h&r to pedders. pedders are great, way better ride. i also installed ss/tc struts and shocks at the same time. id say if you can swing it, go with ss/tc struts up front and konis in the back. ss/tc rear shocks are a bit bouncy with the pedders, i was a little disapointed with that.
any thoughts if i bought ss/tc shocks & struts and kept my h&r springs? would it help with the ride quality. I know damn well my stock struts have gone to hell which is probably most of the problem. Trying to fix this on a budget (1k for coils is just too much)
No. I have a ss/tc with H&R's and the ride sucks. But if your struts are bad no wonder you hate your ride.

don't ask your struts to do what your springs should do, you'll just waste them. Hang out in the parts for sale area and buy pedders from someone going to coils. Happens now and then. Last week there was one.
Good to know! And yea its quite a rough ride to say the least haha. Looks like I'll look into ss/tc shock/struts and some peddars but I'll miss how low these h&r's are haha

It's all a trade off. The lower you go on springs the more compact they have to be and the less travel they can have, which means more bottoming and/or coil bind, resulting in a rougher ride.

Well I just swapped out B&G springs on the stock fe3 shocks/struts with the fe5 with pedder springs in my redline. Huge improvement in both ride and handling. It's not as low but I don't care about that so much. Not sure how the B&G springs compare to H&R springs but from what I've read and been told they are very similar. I got the CED Fe5 package with pedders for like $750ish. If your struts and shocks are trashed you might as well get it all at one time and enjoy the car again.
Hm ok, a buddy of mine has a SS/TC (fe5) on Eibach Sportline's and it rides just a little stiffer than stock but still has a decent drop...think I'm going to give that a shot. At this point anything is an improvement. Plus fe5 plus eibachs still comes out cheaper than fe5 and peddars
