OEM rear drums to disc conversion kit (PROBLEMS)

Here's a review of the OEM rear drums to disc conversion kit that I bought from OverKillEngineeringMotorsports.com

My proffesional mechanic attempted to install this brake kit yesterday.

This brake kit does not work/fit on my 2006 chevy cobalt. There are numerous things wrong and unsafe about this brake kit as stated bellow.

#1. The 2 Brake Calipers are Used and are not in good working order. Taken from an auto salvage yard (Junkyard) and powdercoated to make them look like they are good. (Unsafe)(I was expecting new calipers as stated on the seller for sale ad)

#2. Total of 6 vital bolts for the calipers are missing that are needed for installation. (2 Banjo Bolts and 4 caliper mounting bolts)(Cannot install without this hardware)(Bolts cannot be purchased separately)

#3. E-Brake will not work with this brake kit (Very Unsafe)

#4. E-brake extension too short and will not reach(Brake will not engage fully and will slip)

#5. Russell Stainless steel brake lines too short and kink very badly. Also cannot connect them to the calipers since the banjo bolts are missing. (Cannot install)(Cannot purchase separately)

#6. No way to secure the stainless brake lines (Very unsafe)(Cannot have it wrap around the coil spring)(Can't leave it hanging loosely)

#7. Brake Rotors were suppose to be BREMBO brand name and are fakes or countefeit (No Stamp)(Brembo are Stamped)(Unknown Brand name)(Confirmed by my mechanic as not being genuine BREMBO rotors)(Was expecting Brembo as stated on the for sale ad)

#8. Metal brackets inside the calipers are missing. Needed to install the brake pads (Cannot Install)

I told my mechanic to order brand new calipers and ditch the junk ones. That did not help since there is still no way to attach the stainless lines to the calipers without those banjo bolts. Your suppose to re-use them and they don't come with new store purchased calipers.

For my own safety my mechanic did not install this brake conversion kit and put all my old drum brakes back on.

My mechanic has also taken pics of all these problems as he was running into them. I'll have those in a couple of days.
In his words "This is the worst brake conversion kit I have ever seen"
He described it as a "suicide kit" as the result of installing this would lead to a serious car crash or death.

You would think that after that many angry customers he would have learned something. Some things never change and I guess this guy still thinks it's ok to sell used junk parts.

I want to UPS this brake kit back to the seller and expect a full refund minus the shipping cost.
Awaiting reply from him right now

I paid $500 for this kit and I expect my money returned to me. If I loose out on this then at least no one will ever get ripped off by him again.

Worst online purchase I ever made.

Just looking out for you Cobalt guys

Pics to show you

Used Calipers. Quickly Powdercoated for Visual stimulation

Missing bolts

Missing metal brackets needed to install the Hawk Hps pads

White paint indicates they are from an auto salvage yard.

NOT BREMBOS (Unknown Brand Name)

REPLY from the seller:

I am sorry to here this. The kit does work and there are no issues with it at all. The calipers are not rebuilt, you did not pay for this service. The lines are not russel they are goodridge and fit well without kinking. The e-brake does fit, you have to use my new extensions with them. The rotors are an OEM rotor. The bolts were all included. a few might have needed to be purchased but overall they were all there.

You mechanic is not very intelligent if he can not figure out how to put a brake kit on. Its a bolt on kit. Like I said u might need a few fittings but overall the kit is all there.

Allow me to reply

First of all I did not pay $500 for a brake kit that "overall" has all the parts needed
Second of all my mechanic installed my turbo kit so you must be joking right? I'll tell you who's not intelligent, YOU!

The kit does NOT work
The Calipers are useless powdercoated junkyard parts
The lines are too short.
E-brake does not reach enough for safe use uphill
The Bolts were NOT all included. 6 were Missing
The Rotors are NOT Brembos

Moderators Please don't lock this thread

I'm only doing this cause I don't want ANY of you getting ripped off

Update

He won't accept returning the kit so I'm out big time $$$ on this one
Like I suspected this company is only interested in getting your money. Once you cash is in his pocket he could care less about you.

Warning to anyone who's thinking about getting a rear drums to discs conversion kit.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS SELLER/COMPANY

Is GREN what comes with saturns as OEM?

I'm going to have to sell these rotors and the Hawk HPS pads so that would help me if you knew what brand they are

Anyone here have a saturn s-series 93 to 98 in need of Hawk Hps rear pads or rear rotors
Never used and I'm stuck with them

Did you use paypal or a Credit card? If so, open up a dispute with Paypal or the issuing bank on the credit card.

that he did, i didn't even realize it was from the same company until I went to check it out before I ordered and wouldn't ya know it. I guess that explains why a company was cheaply selling a conversion kit. I am sad now.

Considering the product he got was not the product advertised, he has a case for getting a successful chargeback. You just have to show your credit card company proof that you were defrauded.

I was screwed over by this company as well, but for the terrible endlinks he sent me. I'm out $80 for his endlinks and then another $35 for the oem endlinks I had to buy.

He told me that I could return them to him (at my cost) so he could look at them and then "think" about helping me out with a set of new engineered ones....

I just cut my losses and decided to never deal with the company again.

Exactly why I typed everything out in detail. If I'm out $$$ then at least none of us good cobalt guys here are getting screwed.

That's what I did. He cleaned, adjusted them and called it a day. 70% still remains. Maintain your rear drum brakes properly and they will work just fine.
If you have over $1200 to spend get the SSBC Drums to Discs Converion Kit @ Turbo Tech Racing

He just slaps everything together and puts no thought into what might happen if his product fails. If you had sent him your broken endlinks I'm sure he would have blamed it on "incorrect installation" or "driver abuse"

He's very good at pinning the blame on someone else.

This is exactly why I didn't bother shipping them back to him. I knew somehow it would have been my fault that they weren't functioning correctly. Like I said, I just cut my losses and decided to never deal with the company again.

If paypal, you're way beyond their date on that. But you could check with your bank to see if they'll still possibly do it. Every institution is different with their dispute rules.

Too late to file a paypal claim for me. I'll be happy if this scammer never gets another cent from anyone.

One more Important note for everybody

This scammer/seller will lie and tell you that parts are on backorder. He intentionally delays shipping on the package until 4 weeks have passed.

Then when he knows it's too late for you to file a paypal claim he mails the package over to you. You get the package with'in 2 weeks (TOTAL 6 WEEKS NOW) and it's too late for paypal to back you up.

I got all kinds of excuses from

"The Hawk Pads are on Backorder"
"I'm in the process of buying the calipers"
"This kit is a special order so I don't have all the parts in stock"

He's got this scam all planned out guys. Not his first time ripping off people

Sounds like what OTTP did for me.
