Parking/e-brake
Parking/e-brake
Ok, i know i've read this somewhere before. I've searched for a hour, and found the need to open a new thread. I got a 05 SS/SC, and my parking brake is REALLY messed up. I dont feel comfortable parking it in my driveway without it in gear, and sometimes even blocking the tires.
I literally have to yank it AS FAR as it can possibly pull up to engage the brake. and even when i'm driving at ANY speed, and crank the brake NOTHING happens at all. Car doesnt even slow down a little. What do you guys recommend? I read somewhere before that someone did a mod/adjustment so that they can actually get bent driving in rain or snow very easily with the park brake. I've driven base cobalts/g5's as courtesy cars /and a friends car and the e-brake only needs to be pulled about 3 clicks and its completely engaged!!

well you can start by adjusting the e-brake. It probably has never been adjusted so everything is stretched and that may be why its not engaging. To do this remove the plastic ebrake handle, and tighten the 10mm bolt until the ebrake is tighter. Adjust this with the ebrake disengaged and keep testing it.
If this doesnt work, a cable could be snapped, or maybe something in the ebrake handle. This would require some troubleshoothing.

My car was doing this and I had to yank it to even hold the car on an incline. Tightened the nut on the cable and now holds after 3 clicks.
We stow great info in the How To section:

adjust the break, and ALWAYS leave your car in gear when you're parked. First rule of parking a manual car. Read through the posts and see what happens every year to the guys who don't think they have to leave it in gear.
