Performance shocks?
Performance shocks?
anybody know of a site or place where i can find some sort of a performance shock. atleast ones that are better than stock, an upgrade if you would...
get B&G coilovers ... they're just over 1K and are fully adjustable.. if you lower the car and buy new shocks/ struts then you'll be close to that price anyway and have no height adjust ability.. i think there's a group buy going on for them right now
coilovers blow, IMO, for daily driving...plus it's not like flick a switch and the ride goes up and down...it does take some work to do it.
as for close to $1K thing for struts and shocks...for my Koni's and SSC springs...I'm sitting at $600 for the combo, just have to keep an eye out and know where to look...so I'd say $400-$500 difference isn't even close to just over $1K
go with Koni's man, had them on 2 cars now, absolutley love them!!!

coilovers.. adjustable hieght (can riase it in the winter so you don't snow plow and slam it for shows) and damper.. so you can adjust how hard/ soft teh ride is...koni's also require some modification to the car which makes you not be able to use anything but koni's again... coilovers don't
coilovers can also let you adjust for camber via pillow ball mount

B&G FTW.
right now i'm running koni's with prokit springs, i just ordered some b&g coilovers so i'll let you know which is better. as far as the modification to use the koni's it took all of 30 minutes with a sawsall to cut the oem shock body and install the koni inserts and i don't know why elecblue06 thinks you can't use anything but koni's ever again because the mod is to the oem shock/strut not the car itself. i've ran coilovers on other cars and if you're after handling it's hard to beat, the koni's are a quality product though and probly more street friendly. the long and short of it is if the coilover shock wears out it'll be about $200 to have it rebuilt, the koni's are guarenteed for a million miles.

have you had B&G coilovers on you ride? no.. you haven't so you don't know if they blow... not to mention installing coilovers is easier then doing springs/ shocks.. so it's a difference of maybe him paying for installation..

600 bucks, u know how hard i find that to believe. koni's them selves sell for 580-600 cheapest, average is 600-630. and u probably lucked out on the SSC springs and got them for 125, so ur still sitting at nearly 800 bucks right there with shipping and everything. and the modification required to get the koni's installed on the fronts is not worth the headache.

Then guess who knows one of the managers at Canuck Motorsports? which is SSC springs...that's right, me. So He gave me a set basically at cost $100. Plus the fact I live 20 minutes from there, there is no shipping.
so stay with me...$500+$100 = $600...
so hey thanks for coming out and trying to prove me wrong...there's some lovely parting gifts for ya...

actually I HAVE had B&G coilovers on my Cavalier, so thanks for coming out...and I found the Koni's a much better daily drive then the B&G's...if you read my statement I said coilovers BLOW FOR DAILY DRIVING, IMO. See that IMO opinion part and the DAILY DRIVING part? I'm sure at the track coilovers would be a lot better, but for DAILY DRIVING, IMO the Koni's were better. Plus he lives in Florida, raising it up for snow, not going to be an issue...lol. As the other guy said also the "use anything but Koni's statement" is false.
let's see since you obviously know more than me...I got the Koni's, already modified in the struts, for $500

you fail .. ok so the cobalt isn't the cavi.. it's a different suspension setup slightly so it will be different ride wise. and way to prove yourself wrong *******.. so in otherwords you have to buy koni's used and know someone that manufactures springs to get the deal for 600
sooo basically no one else will get that deal but you.. and get the chip off your shoulder...
exactly

yeah i did get a good deal, what's your point? $800-$900 for the average person is still $400-$500 cheaper than the B&G setup, which is $1299, last time I checked, plus shipping.
Installing struts/springs are harder than coilovers? I've done both, more time consuming, yes...harder, no.
do you have them on a Cobalt??? looks like a Saturn to me...maybe you have both I don't know.

stop trying to one up everyone .. i simply gave my opinion because it's a viable one.. and it'll work great for most people's purposes..
do i plan to get coil overs for my ion.. you bet your ass.. the advantages i've listed for coilovers over springs are greater then the possibility of a slightly better ride with springs/ shocks.. we bought a sportier car with a sport suspension and some have racing seats.. those things don't normally come on your family sedan that doesn't feel the roads
well i've decided to go with the SSC springs. i mean lifetime sag warranty, a pretty nice drop, good feedback from friends that use them, and most importantly it fit my budget. i mean i'm sure in the future if i'm not satisfied with them i'll go with coilovers when i'm done with some bills. i guess this is better than nothin, i mean cobalts look like they're on stilts stock. i wont have to worry about installing them either, i mean i'm a daily 9-5 mechanic so that'll be an easy job, so the price on labor wont be a factor for me. Well i appreciate all the feedback from you guys, feel free to keep posting so others know where to go to lower from stock. Thank You!
lulz.. you're behind on things i never said i have them.. annnd B&G coilovers are 1050 from a vendor on here.. and from another place.. thats shipped too.. and m ore time consuming in most peoples eyes is more of a pita

my point was valid too, and you come in saying have you ever had them...well of the 2 of us, I actually have...lol
if all you're doing is daily driving your car, then springs and some Koni's is all you need. If you're doing autocross or shows, then yeah get coilovers.
anyway, haven't heard anything bad about the SSC springs, so good choice. Now get some Koni's, for a "slightly" better ride...lol
update, i installed the b&c coilovers and to my surprise they have a much better ride quality than the koni's with the prokit springs. i'm running the car just a little higher than sportline springs set.
I just got them on this weekend. I must say that they do indeed handle much better than stock. They were a bit of a pain to install, like any time you put struts and springs. They are a firm ride, but not harsh and not bouncy just firm, but your gonna handle much better. Overall once they break in a little I am sure they are going to ride even better. over all im pleased with the koni struts and shocks
sweet, yeah i hear good things bout koni's.... i just put my SSC springs on this weekend. Car looks great!!! ...just gotta start savin for some koni's if i decide to go with them
my friend had som coilovers on his
WRX and he said for daily driving he would much rather have springs and struts... i think im gonna go with CA coilovers or konis for my car. there aoroundd thesame price

I would highly recommend the Koni's I bought the Koni's and Eibach sportlines and the car handles like a dream. It doesn't feel like a lowered car unless I stiffen up my shocks. It is definately worth the money to buy the Koni's.
