Performance Struts vs Coilovers

As some of you may know my stock suspension is about shot from being lowered on CA#1 springs for a year. I have been looking around and thought I had made my mind up that I was just going to get the complete Koni performance struts and shocks package for around $630. That was until today I saw the Ksport Coilover setup on sale for $780. What is everyone's opinions on both setups. Would it be worth the extra $150 to get coilovers or should I just stick to going with the Koni setup

I have the BC Coilovers on my car (pretty much the same as the Ksport in regards to adjustability) and I really like them. They ride very well and give me the versatility to adjust the height up for winter and down for summer.

I would recommend going with coilovers.

To me, unless they're fully adjustable the coilovers aren't worth it, but it all depend on what you're looking to get out of them.

Well i dont think i would take much advantage out of the adjustability at first but it might be nice if i ever decided to do some autox racing or something. I also like the fact that they are full replacement and dont have to mess around with hacking apart the stock struts like you would the koni. However the koni have lifetime warranty on them where the ksport only have a 1 yr. I mean what is the life expectancy of them I would hope they would last a long time for the price

IMO i'd pay a little more and get coilovers, you have so much adjustability it's worth it. I'm not too sure on K-Sport/Meagan/BC though. I'm new to Cobalt's but i've heard a lot of bad things about Ksports.

If youre options are Koni yellows or gargbage coilovers go with the yellows all day long.

Koni makes a great product(its not as dialed as TC dampers for handling, but nothing this side of $5000 is) they have a great warrany.

You know they are gonna work, you know they are gonna last.

Yeah coilovers have more adjustments, you know what? thats just more ways to F up your ride and handling.

If I was going aftermarket, and had a $3000 limit, Id pick my favorite springs and Koni Yellows

By a set of blown struts off of somebody, then the Konis are a direct bolt in. Once I get new struts and take off my SS struts Ill sell you my LS fronts for shipping plus $10

Well, I contacted KW and see if they will be making the Variant 3 available for the TC. If they do, that would be a good alternative for a coilover with separate compression and rebound setting at around 2k. I like their Variant 2 over other cheaper coilovers available for our car, as their damper adjustment only affects rebound. Both the V2 and V3 can be ordered with custom spring rates.

Otherwise, if not going the coilover route see Maven's suggestion.

KWv3's wouldnt be a bad deal, so long as you can get the proper levels of damping.

SIngle adjustment point rebound/compression damping sucks. period.

KWv2s probably are the best bet for getting a decent handling coilover setup due to the rebound only adjustability(like the Konis) but the problem you run into(like the konis) is that its hard/impossible to get proper setup, you tend to get excessive rebound damping and not enough bump, or you get toom much bump and not enough rebound. Most people love the though......but most people love whatever they spend their monies on.

From what i've read on srt*forums in the last few years is Ksports/Megans/BC are all made by the same company in Taiwan with slight differences in each coilover. I've heard thousands of people praise BC Coilovers and thousands knock Ksports.

B&G and KW's seem to be the best.

IMO go with Konis and your favorite set of springs (IMO Eibach Sport-Lines)

Yeah, thats why I hope that KW makes the V3 for TC. At 2K a set, it probably won't have the performance of the high end 28 series koni's, but you are not spending 1K for a single damper either...

Like you mentioned, for set-up with the 28 series koni's with good springs you are realistically looking at north of 5k.

back to stock TC struts and shocks best damping best bang for the buck...you can always sleeve the strut and make it a coil over.

yes the Konis are very good and carry a lifetime warranty....but k-sports arent garbage coilovers either...but in the end if i had a cobalt i would probly go sportlines/rack spacer/tc shock.strut....

ha wrong...and how can you tell me they are junk?? have you seen how they are made??have you seen the materials used...im not saying they are better than Tein or JIC or B&G but they arent "Junk"...im pretty sure that K-sort uses a variant of the Kontrol Pro's in a racing series... now i dont know which line they have made available for you guys, but the Kontrol Pros are far from JUNK.

they are made the same those slight differences are color and naming....

but kind of alluding to what alleycat said and Maven said...all the adjustability can hurt you too....you start adjusting stuff that doesnt need adjusted and you suddenly have a car that handles worse than a stock LS...trust me when i was tuning i would do a small adjustment go to the parking lot and it would understeer like nobody's business...but once you get ANY coilover "dialed in" they are amazing
