Pic request: B&G front springs under load
Just looking to see what the B&G springs look like under load to figure out if they have a dead coil. Im picking up a set B&G's from a guy and his car had rake with them, I want to know if I can cut a coil without losing rate/ride.
Also, anyone have B&G's over an extended period of time? The ones im buying are older just want to know if they last or fall apart in 3 years like other crap springs. Thanks! |

Just looking to see the spring itself, and how it sits in the strut, need to know If the bottom couple coils make contact and sit on each other, if you cutting off one gets you maybe .5" more drop and no difference in the ride, and it doesn't sit as cockeyed because the coils compress.

You do know that if you cut a coil it won't sit in the spring perch properly, right?

Like this diagram: https://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billa...ions_small.jpg Cutting one 1/2 coils off the left spring will cause all the weight of the spring to sit on one un even piece which is not anywhere near as safe/stable. Now the spring on the right is full compressed representing the bottom of a dead coil spring. Lets say you cut two of those pieces off on the bottom, its still going to sit very similar. Now, this is my understanding, I haven't actually done it, but ive heard several people cutting off the bottom dead coil and 1/2 and not losing any ride quality or having mounting issues. |

Anyway, there is a notch in the strut where the end of the spring is supposed to sit. If you cut half a coil the end of your spring is now 180 degrees from that notch and is no longer sitting safely in the mount. Don't do that. |
cant anyone give me some incite? also, are there any sedans on B&G's that have had rake?
