Rear Alignment
Rear Alignment
So I bought my 09 ss about a month ago from another dealership. Last friday at My dealership we had an alignment course for the tech so I volunteered my car, about 30 mins into it they tell me my rear axle is bent ( the front of the passenger rear tire veers outward). So I take it to the dealership I bought it at tonight and they tell me because the rear is lowered it needs shims behind the hub on the right side to correct it. Is this correct? This the way I bought so Im unsure of what springs they are (red). There is no visible damage at all and the only way to tell is on the alignment rack.
Edit according to si rear tow and camber are not adjustable - replace damaged suspension as necessary

has the car ever been hit? if its been hit in the rear on that side its very possible the torsion beam could be bent. i just had that issue with a kia soul(same priciple torsion beam) ive aligned my car about 10 times with various different setups from coilovers to springs and ive YET to have an issue with the rear being out of line. theres no adjustment.
Clean carfax and no visible damage on the vehicle. I left it there but im going over it with our techs tommorrow. Thats what si states but im unsure of shims and think thats just a bandaid
dont relay on carfax because its a load of crap....unless there was a police report filed or insurance claim it wont be there. someone could have ran something huge over and never realized it bent slightly.
there is no adjustment. well there is BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE TIME ATTACK BEAM LIKE LS1FBODY. the stock beams have absolutely no adjustment so if the toe is off or the caster is off the beams bent.

I left them a message for the advisor or manager to call me before any work was done to it. Every where i look States the same thing as this conversation. If worse come to worse i can possibly get it covered by powertrain warranty (rear axle falls under this) at my dealership. new one my price is 800!!!

If there is a shim kit available there is nothing wrong with using them. On most torsion/twist beam axle assemblies since the hub bolts directly to the solid beam design there would otherwise be no adjustment on a stock setup and in many times these suspensions types were shimmed from the factory. Sure, replacing the torsion beam assembly may correct the problem but might not be the only solution and probably isn't the cheapest. I haven't looked yet but what does the factory service manual recommend?
my rear toe is off on the drivers side rear and its not adjustable, yet there are no ill signs of tire wear or anything like that.
You can't shim the rear hubs on a TC without adversely effecting the brakes because the caliper mount is welded to the axle and does not move with the hub.
anyone have any comment on this? Just some info I pulled from another post here
