Second best will have to do

According to Shox.com, Bilstein shocks will not be available for 2006 base Cobalts for at least 9 months. As good as Bilsteins are, I'm not willing to wait that long. Do you have any suggestions for shocks? I intend to use Eibach Sportline springs.

Thanks,

Bob

Thanks a ton. I hate spending money.
Even though a search didn't help answer my question, a post on the same page as this one did. Dang it. I keep forgetting it's READ then POST.

But for how long? Just because we don't have any struts available doesn't necessarily mean stock ones are okay.

And do not put sportlines on stock struts. Especially base struts at least the SS's have a little stiffer strut but i still wouldn't recommend it either way. It will cost more in the long run.

isn't koni harder to install on our cars since the whole shock is adjustable.. i want a shock that i can just put on with out adjusting anything and worrying about if i did it right.

Don't be scared of adjustablity, embrace it. Really we won't know until they are out as far as ease of install. Shouldn't be anything difficult to adjust them as they are externaly adjustable i believe.

stock shocks will not be fine, get koni's and be done w/ it, and you'll never have to worry about shocks again, koni's are the best shock out there, better than belstien. wait for koni's if u lower your car on stock shocks, expect to spend more in the end for having ro replace strut mounts and possibly wheel bearings due to blown shocks, just wait. why buy a new car to mess it up buy not doing something correctly.

I'm not sure if I agree.. Don't get me wrong.. Koni's are good but Bilstein's are the best.. IMO.. German Engineered.. No Offense to anyone but those German's sure know how to make a car handle like a dream!!

i think i'm going to wait for bilstein shocks to come out.. koni's seem like to much of a headache in installing. does anyone know how much money a set of four bilstein shocks will prolly go for in our cobalts?

If your having a shop install them for you any competant suspension shop should be able to do it. Bilstein shocks i would say are better then koni but not by much. Not to mention Bilstein are usually pretty expensive. Like close to $1000.

All you do is turn a knob to adjust them. Koni sends directions that says how to adjust them and even gives you tips on setting your suspension up like what certain adjustments will do to the handling of the car(ie stiffer settings in different corners of the car). But seems like you have your mind made up on Bilstein for whatever reason so wait a year for them to come out and spend more while your at it then you would for koni's.

Koni's were suggested by the guy at Shox.com. I've had them on motorbikes before, Koni makes a good product.

I just installed some 17x7 Motegi MR7s with some Toyo Proxes FZ4.This comination is about 3/4" taller than the stock wheel/tyre. I believe the Sportlines will be ok with the stock shocks. Well, hopefully they'll last long enough for the Bilsteins to be available.

Ok, free lesson time. Installing a Koni shock is no different than installing a stock one. The adjustment takes place after installation. All you are doing with the adjustment is changing the stiffness of the strut. Have nothing to do with height or anything like that.

Running the sportlines on the stock struts will not cause you a problem right away. You will probably get 6 months out of the stock SS struts, less on base model struts. Ideally, if you want to do it in the most economical way, you will swap the whole suspension when doing the upgrade, that way you can swap it back to stock if you sell the car or if you need to drive it in the winter.

Has anyone heard any talk of a full coil-over kit yet? That is what I am holding out for!!

RKSport list some for the 2005 2.2L http://www.rksport.com/product/p_12035075/view_detail
I emailed H&R and they didn't have anything for the SS/SC. I didn't ask about other versions of the Cobalt. They said it was in R&D for the SS/SC, without an expected date.
