So I have an LT....
So I have an LT....
I recently bought an 06 LT coupe for my 80 mile round trip to work. Gas is expensive and my truck was costing me a fortune. I told myself I would leave it stock and just drive it. Well naturally, for me anyhow, that has lasted about 2 weeks. I've been thinking, since it needs struts soon maybe I'll get some lowering springs too. Since I'll need new tires in a year probably and the stock wheels are not only ugly, but are flaking clear coat, I might as well look into getting a nice set of 18s.
Anyway I've looked around some but since this site is for you folks with the SS, I'm not sure what applies to me. Am I right in thinking all springs and struts are the same between the SS and my LT? I know the SS is lower from the factory. Wheel and tire sizes aside, is an SS with X brand springs the same height as a base model like mine with the same springs?
One last thing, I only want a modest drop and don't want to totally destroy the ride quality since it's my daily driver. The car has been really growing on me, it just sits funny.

The springs/struts/shocks are different between the Base/LS/LT (FE1), the SS N/A (FE3), and the LSJ/LNF(FE5). They are interchangeable, however.
Here is a comparison of the different suspension (and brake) packages available for the Cobalt/Ion/G5/HHR.
Suspension and brake facts (FE1, FE3, FE5, J41, JM4, JL9)
To answer your question, the SS and the LS/LT, with the same size wheels/tires/springs will be roughly the same height. There are some minor differences in the strut/shock setup as well, however. And I mean VERY minor.
Here are some of the different springs available for the Cobalt/Ion/G5/HHR. Some are nearly identical, while others are drastically different in drop and ride quality.
Compare all lowering springs

Thanks for the info about the platform codes. I wasn't sure what they meant. I'll look at that suspension and brake sticky. I did browse the first ten pages of the comparison thread but I wasn't sure if much if it even applied to me, being that I don't have an SS.
