Softer suspension?
Softer suspension?
My factory 'sport-tuned' suspension on the 2008 Cobalt Sport 2.4 (non-turbo) is getting to me. I use the car mostly for city driving and I can feel every pothole I hit. Is there anything I can do to the suspension to make it SOFTER? I don't race and don't do any off-roading. I just want my car to provide a comfortable ride on bad roads. Thanks!
There are a few things you can do:
1. Check the tire pressures. a higher pressure will make for a harsher ride. Between 32-35psi would be the lowest I would go. any lower and you will have issues with tire wear and rim damage if you hit a pothole.
2. Get a different set of rims and tires. The stock sport rims and tires are 17" with 205-50-17 tires. For a 17" rim this is a fairly big sidewall. If you stepped down to a 16" you could put a 205-55-16 that will be the same width, but have a larger sidewall. The larger sidwall will soften the ride a little and will reduce handling slightly.
3. You could change out your FE3 springs for the FE1 springs. This will definately soften the ride and will probable feel floaty compared to your current setup.
Those are just a few things off the top of my head. I am sure that others may have different or better solutions. Good Luck!
