is it just coming from one side and does the ticking change speed as the car does?

ok, stupid question, but did you check to make sure it's not just a rock in your tire?

Is it a ticking noise or more of a chirp. I lowered a friends ION quad coupe and the next he came back with a chirp noise over bumps and while driving turns out the noise was coming from the rear shocks.

well, if it's constant and changes speed as the car does, it's not the springs or shocks, it's something that is rotating. I'd just wait and see if it goes away when you get the alignment.

Think about it.. It has to be something rotating.. If it gets louder as it speeds up.. The struts and springs don't rotate.. lol

Now, if it's a SQUEAK, yes, my factory rear struts/springs squeak ALOT.. I'll be curious to see if it stops after I install my Sportlines next week.. If not, then it's the struts..

Well, if you think about it, he's lowering an LS with sportlines. Drops 2.0 in the front and 2.5 in the rear. That big of a drop will noticeably affect the camber and will put rotating parts at an angle they shouldn't be at, which will be fixed with an alignment. The noise wasn't there before he did this and it changes speed as he does, so it is something that is rotating.

Um no not true learn your car I do alignments all day the back is a solid axle it does not change the alignment angles in the rear when you lower a cobalt just the front

that's cool, you sound like a really smart guy. I was just telling him that if it started when he lowered it and it was constant with his speed, it has to do with rotating parts. It didn't make sense to me because the back is solid, but that was the only thing I could think of. My bad for trying to help the guy with inputs compared to "has nothing to do with the alignment" without giving any further information as to why. But good thing you're here, Mr. wheel aligner extremely hard job guy.
