Suspension Replacement Question
Suspension Replacement Question
Good morning all,
Now that I know what I'm getting back for taxes I am looking at what Shock/Struts I should be getting for my car, I need to replace all 4 and I'd like to be able to get ZZP's Lowering Springs too so I need to make sure the suspension can handle lowering springs. I was going to get the KYB Excel-G Struts off of ZZP but their rears are sold out, when I went to Summits website to get the same thing they say it doesn't fit my model (2009 Cobalt SS). Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Getting all new Suspension, Rear Calipers fixed with Rotors and Pads.

So, to slightly resurrect this thread. Same topic basically. I have also been looking at replacing struts soon. Does the car need all the seats and insulators etc or can you just throw springs and struts together? I was looking at zzp springs (or should I go YYZ for a daily driver?), FE5 struts/shocks, Monroe 63619 Strut-Mate strut-boot kit, and Monroe 905907 Strut-Mate Strut Mounting Kit. I am not familiar enough with the suspension to figure out what else I may need. On the gmpartsdirect the schematic is very hit and miss with soft sport/performance and handling suspensions. I looked at 2009 cobalt also and the insulators just arent available for the FE5/Sport. Is this by design or are they just out of stock?

I have a couple kyb strut mounts if you are interested. I'm guessing $40 shipped If you need or want them. I would stick with fe5 as they are most economical. Yyz springs are nice, drop the car slightly and improve the handling. I ran them for several years.
I have the zzp springs on my car. They do not ride good with the factory struts, the car sits kind of low so my guess is the struts are bottoming out in their travel over large bumps. Not terrible but I plan on buying yellow koni adjustable struts so that it rides better. I just went ahead and got new strut tops and bearings, thank god I did because the bearings actually fell apart. Hope this helps, don't want ru l you to blow money on factory struts and they ride bad. I can send you pics on how it sits if you like. It was the red springs
