Suspension ?'s

So for my graduation from college im getting my dad to get me 1000 in parts. What im planning is LNF/FE5 struts and shocks, Tint, and Sportlines.

The question is and i did search sry if i ask again this is my first real "tuning" Vehicle.

For a good set up all i should need is the struts L/R sides, and the rear absorbers?

Or

Do i need any of the control arms or sway bars or any of that confusing nonsense???

I would get a TTR rear sway bar and possibly a front strut bar as well.

300 for struts and absorbers
200 for lowering springs
170 for TTR rear Sway bar
100-150 for front strut bar

That's 770 in parts not sure if you are installing yourself though.

and you could get the twin subframe brace... youd have a stiff incredible corner carver at that point and still be under your 1k mark.

what are you running for tires cause that will be the weak point right there

TTR sway bar is not the best it is actually too stiff...
strut bars are not needed in these cars...the koni SS's and the TA ss's didnt use strut bars...

that saves you atleast 100...

So i dont need Sway bars in actuality so there just a nice upgrade. Because i rather get them a little bit later down the road. Like Late summerish i just wanna know what i need for a good suspension without blowing struts.

I know the Shocks and struts from the LNF are a must i was just really checking part numbers. That and as Maven says UNCUT bumpstops.

Then later down the road the sway bars?

Yes there is a little debate apparently about the TTR sway bar being too thick. I had it and loved it to death. Might look into LNF rear sway bar.

Pretty much if you match all the parts off an LNF cobalt you will be more than happy. The car handles like a sporty car should. Taking turns at 80mph without hearing screaching tires is a first for me. Scared the passengers though

As crateenginedepot about all of the part #s and see if they will strike you a deal. They should save you a lot of money by buying it all at once and dropping shipping costs.

These things make the absoulute biggest difference in ride/handling
LNF Struts and Shocks = $375
Sporlines = $225

These would round out the package more fully.
SS/SC front antiroll bar = $100 with links
Eibach or Time Attack Street rear anitroll bar $170+

That pretty much spends your budget(its gone if you have to pay for install) But all thats really left for a street car anyway is steering rack spacers and lower control arm joints. Save up a few bucks and finish the package, or just stick with the dampers/springs/bars and be happy.

A strut bar or subframe bar are wastes of money/time in my book. Most people who have them love them(placebo affect of spending money imo), but there are some people who will admit they are a waste.

on all cobalts the rear sway bar is built into the rear axle....so you cant simply swap sway bars....it would be great if you could but its just not meant to be...

I am not making anything, Powell Raceshop designed/manufactures the bar, OTTP is the exclusive dealer, I just get to test them and talk to the big boys.

Mil-spec chromoly tube, significantly lighter than solid bars of similar stiffness, 2 sizes.......yummy. I should have mine next week I think. Rumor has it they go to powder coat tomorrow.

part numbers are in the Suspension sticky, post 11. Get it from CED or GMpartsdirect or any online GM parts house. or dealer.

OK so im About ready to order i think and the parts are as follow

1 x 19161044 (Left TC strut)
1 x 19181043 (Right TC strut)
1 x 25793745 (TC shocks)
1 x 15821093 (Fe5 SC swaybar)
2 x 22700091 (05 FE5 Insulator)
2 x 20784688 ( Endlinks )

That brings me to about 460 dollars

Eibach Sportlines not cutting bumpstops about 250

So Total of 710 or so dollars...Just need a intelligent person to chime in and give me a yes on the parts and ill be ordering them.

CED page says two shocks required. You only have one listed. Personally I still go with SS/TC springs. They are stiff and will make the car handle much better. All other numbers look good.

I always thought Eibach never finished their sway bar kit for the Cobalt. It had been under production for 3 years and we haven't seen it.
