I see well I hope the guy from the GM parts knows what I'm talking about. 'Cause the last time I asked for the GMPP intake and he doesn't even know what it is!

does urethane bushings and anodized brackets are different compare to the bushings and mounts you get at the GM parts?? Because it comes with the ST kit already

monte.... you installed your front sway in your cobalt in 45 minutes? where are you and how? Everything I have heard was 4 hours.... even by the pros.

i bought this rear bar form a supporting vendor. it came bright flourescent green. so i had a machine shop spray HVOF on it. (the metals used were alum/nickle/zinc.)
then i went to install it, and the metal backing bars were bent at two different angles. the bolt looms on the bar itself were not sqare and in different locations. T centers of the looms and the centers of the bracket holes are 2 different distances. bottom line. no way in hell would it line up. that was a year ago. the vendor wont do anything for me and suggested i contact the manufacturer who says i should deal with the vendor. the vendor wont supply replacement back-brackets. THAT WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO.

Firestorm I share your pain you got screwed and thats really hard...

I have personally done a lot of interesting things with cars but nothing matches some of the interesting and very well thought out stuff folks do with their Cobalts. And the tuners are very brave, compared to the rock solid GM cals in Stage 2/3.

But some of this suspension tuning stuff is hard for me to figure out. And the vendors take advantage of folks like Firestorm...thats a shame.

For example, the strut towers on a Cobalt and very strong welded very close to the firewall. IMHO a strut cross bar does zip for structural stiffness. Why bother? looks nice? Great. Makes the car handle better? I dont think so...so do you have to have one, coz a Civic needs it (flimsy c**p car)?

But I do believe the rear suspension on a Cobalt SS Supercharged should accept a little more stiffness. If you mandrel bent a simple small diamater thin wall chrome moly U shaped tube mimicing the twisting beam across and down each trailing arm where it would be anchored with bolts , well that would do wonders.

The front bar IMHO is fine. Why change it and create more push? FWD cars dont need more push! Stock Cobalt SS struts and springs are fine. If you go much lower the tires crash into the fender wells anyway...If you want real shocks buy Ohlins, fantastic. $7000 for a pair. Lot of bucks for fantastic...

The real issue for the Cobalt to improve handling is to stiffen the front lower control arm bushings front and rear pickups. And the rear twisting beam bushing is a big marshmallow and the smart money would concentrate on fixing that. If you read the GM Grand Am build book you will find that the Grand Am Cobalt race teams figured that out (with GM's valuable help) and the Cobalt arguably out handles all the other cars in ST road racing.

But if you want to look like a Ricerburner and bounce over every pebble in the road and crash your cars cradle into the ground everytime you pull into your driveway , well go for it...

it actually is a manufacture defect tho. whoever ran the brake was a loser.
my brother owns a machine shop, but thats not the point. i havent had time at the same time they had the right equipment free. if i had to pay a shop to build the new brackets i need, it would be the same as buying another sway bar. my intention of the bad is to keep the back end of the car down more, and perhaps give it a tad more push. i want the back end too break lose a lil easier, so it has more of a RWD feel to it. The funny thing was, i actually emialed the vendor asking for a progress bar as they had just been released. Kenny replied that he couldnt get those quickly and that he had some susp, tech, bars in stock and some locals had em, and were very pleased. so i said well, if your saying its a great bar, ill try it out. my ******* god, when i opened the box and saw bright ******* green i wigged. i didnt even test fit it----why would i, its a simple enuf part. so i have my brother coat it, in a impact resistan coating that cannot corrode. too bad the stock parts didnt have this treatment.
Mike Leclair was up at my shop as i sold him my hardly used springs and i installed them for him for free. he might remember the bar, he asked me if i took it out of his car. lol. yup ordinary joe woulda been screwed. i have the ability to fix, but is that the responsibility of the consumer? not to mention the shipping to get it, then id have to pay to ship it back and forth again, and im in canada. 65 bux each trip= another bar. if only the manufacturer woulda let me mail them the 20 pix i had on it, or better yet, the vendor went to bat for me............

ST. i refused to pay for it. or the shipping for parts.
not like it will fit anyway as the bar holes are welded on crooked.
i need to fab up 2 brackets with different angles and
different hole centers to even make it work.
because i had it coated, they wont accept a return.
its never been on the car. what a waste of time and money.
i also boycott vendor now over this. (and other reasons.)

damn. sorry to hear about what happened to you. Guess I should research more. Here's a problem about modifying a base model is that they don't have a lot of parts for it!!
