are these struts ok?

so i picked up some struts today and i was "testing" them and i found that they dident behave like it though they would. i would push down and they would go down really slow and barely come up unless i pushed them almost all the way down. it seemed like they werent doing what they should.

whats a good way to tell if your struts are good?

im a uber noob so i have no idea what im takling about too. so help?

struts dont go up bythemselves, thats why they have coil springs on them, the strut dampens and the coilspring returns it to ride hight.

do they raise as fast as you pushed them down?? they sould raise slowly but may not make it back to the full raised highth.

OPERATION - STRUT ASSEMBLY (FRONT)
The strut assembly cushions the ride of the vehicle, controlling vibration, jounce and rebound of the suspension.

The coil spring controls ride quality and maintains proper ride height.

The spring isolators isolate the coil spring at the top and bottom from coming into metal-to-metal contact with the upper mounting seat and the strut.

The jounce bumper limits suspension travel and metal-to-metal contact under full jounce condition.

The strut dampens jounce and rebound motions of the coil spring and suspension.

....

yes shocks will extend back out, yes they are meant to give in thus dampen, but part of dampening is pushing back up. we've all seen blown shocks on the road, up and down up and down up and down. Now picture this, half the battle for a shock is taking weight, the other half is counteracting that weight to the fullest extent the shock can(as restricted by spring height, unless u got DAMMMMMN strong shocks).

Cars with stiff shock/mid stiff spring combo's can be seen everyday now. Like the new bimmer's, LOW stock yet EXTREMELY comfortable. Thank some stiff ass shocks and mid-stiff springs for that.

lower springs+ 70000km's equals:

2 blown struts: they go down but dont come back up

4 blown rear shocks: they all went down but never came back up.

trust me when they dont come up they are wrecked. if they come up they are fine.

have coilovers now... ahhh.... so much better...

dose it matter how much they come up? one actualy seems fine it goes althe way up but the other one only goes up about an inch or two before its at its top.

pull it all the way out to make sure they are fully extened, then compress them. they should return to very close to the orginal height maybe 1.5 inches less casue the spring would pull them out further. understand? they should move slowly is the main point. that means the gas or oil is charged properly. if the go down very very easy and shoot back up there not the greatest. the job of a strut is to slowly control the rebound of the spring. so it doesn't keep bouncing and slowly rebounds

yea they are both well with in 1.5 inches of the max and then yes rather hard to push down and comes up very slowly

There on there way to be blown soon. Get koni's...any OEM strut SS or not will not take lowering springs. Since you already have them uninstalled, get the konis and install them. Its easier then pluging in your xbox360. If your just replacing your OEMS with stock springs ingore this post
