what do i do?

i just purchased my '05 SS/SC a few weeks ago. got a good, long warranty with it. a few days after i bought it, it started to do that knocking noise from the front suspension and steering column. so i bring the car back to have it looked at. they tell me its the end links on the sway bar. so i change them.....nothing. since, i have read all the posts from others that have had this problem that cant be fixed. so i took my info to the dealership, and they confirmed the tag or whatever on the problem. now, i never would have bought the car had i known it had this problem. and insted of dealing with putting it in the shop 10-15 times with no results, id rather trade it in for another car and eat the difference. i got a good deal with my brothers employee discount, so i wont be upside down too much. now...the techs at the dealership tell me that the noise is just an annoying noise, that wont cause any other problems. is that true? has anyone had something give out directly due to the steering, and bushing problem? because if so, wouldnt it be better for me to trade it in now because i havent put many miles on it or made my first payment yet? im seriously stressed out about this. when you buy a "new" car, you hope to be problem free for a while. or at the very least, have it be a problem that can be fixed. please give me some advice ya'll???

I would trade it in myself, eat it now and save a lot of headaches in the long run.

My car had a clunking noise when turning at slow speeds. It was caused by a bad steering shaft that was binding and when it would give, it would clunk. I was told this is a common problem Cobalts and other GM cars. After they replaced it under warrranty the noise disappeared. There is a TSB on it. Don't know if it applies to the SS.

If you have had it in 10+ times for this same issue, take it to another dealership because the one you are using apparently doesn't care about you. I have never had to take my car in more than once for noise in the suspension.

my 05 LS/LT hasnt had any problems but my moms base model 05 has...and she bought hers new with 9 miles on it. i bought mine used with 26k. i checked the VIN and no problems were fixed under warranty for my car. you may want to have someone check the VIN on your to see if its had constant problems.

Mine was fixed at under 500 miles. It has been about two years since then and has been fine.

cobalts are know for having bad steering shafts, steering columns, and racks. theres a bulletin saying to replace all 3 in a certian order until the noise goes away or something like that. i may dig it up later if i get bored.

if you have a warranty i'd take it to different places and keep complaining until its fixed. my 07 ss/sc had a steering shaft issue also. replaced the shaft and never heard it again.

i ran the VIN today on the car and found that it has already had the steering column replaced 3 times. so screw trying to fix it now. im going to look at a black GTO tomorrow at a different dealership. hopefully i dont loose too much on this SS. the GTO is already 18k+.
