why do Cobalt's sit so high as built?
why do Cobalt's sit so high as built?
What is the reason Cobalt's and g5's sit so high as built at the factory?
I assume someone intentionally prescribed the oem springs that cause the car to sit like it does.
But ---
Is there a technical reason?
Is there an asthestic reason?
this really has me puzzled.
thanks

most people on here have their cars lowered and im sure they are careful about hitting curbs and scratching the bumpers. for other people, they just drive their cars and dont pay attention to what they run over
Econo boxes are about getting a to b. not styling not handling. they sit higher with bouncier springs and thick side walls because that absorbs pot holes, vibrations, and bumps so they arent transferred to the driver.
because of nieghborhoods like my parents where the curb into the drive way is 8 inches high. every time my mom leaves the drive way in her cobalt the front scrapes and drags as she leaves, or rear if she is backed into the drive way. Thats why i park in the street when i go home to visit my parents.
Like many ^^^^ have said, GM builds these things for Mom and Dad to buy junior for a first car and for the rental companies - they are going to take some **** and abuse.
It's going to get driven like it was stolen, over curbs, 40 mph into the Mickey D's parking lot, doing the Dukes of Hazzard over every speed bump......make it too low and you are going to be replacing oil pans and exhaust systems like crazy
Wouldn't look near as high if they didn't make the wheel openings so damn big
nothing a drop won't fix though

Cause some neighborhoods just aren't meant for lower cars. My SS/SC at stock ride height now has a beat to hell front lip because I can't go ANYWHERE in my neighborhood without scraping. I've tried going a mile or so out of my way to find some road I can get to/from my house without scraping on SOMETHING and so far no luck.
