LSU 4.9 PreHeat in accessory mode

Hi all, so I just got my wideband and will be installing it pretty soon. I have read in the instructions and on some sites that having the sensor tied to accessories on and then later starting the car shocks the sensor as it is preheated to 1400 F. Is there a popular way around this? I thought about installing an inline switch of some sort, but it also says its bad to run the car when the sensor isn't heated and I am sure I will forget one or the other. A website says to run a relay that will only energize when the engine is running but I don't know what would be 12V only when the engine was running. I don't normally sit in the car when it is not running and I guess after flashing a tune I could just turn the car back to off for awhile before starting it if there are no other options.

I just run a switch on mine but either way works. You can just use an add-a-fuse on a circuit that is keyed hot.

There are many ignition wires that are routed to the fuse box under the hood that are hot only with the key on. I think you should be able to trigger a relay by tapping into any wire labeled ignition 1 voltage.

what a lot of guys do with aftermarket computer systems is trigger the wideband off the fuel pump relay. this makes sure its only on when the engine is running.

@jdbaugh1 thank you for the in-depth schematics, once I get the car on battery power again I will check the "ignition" circuits. I will also pick up a few add-a-circuit kits as @Slowbalt2000 suggested as I need to fix some wires that were improperly tapped into my sunroof fuse. I will also see if I can find and verify if the fuel pump relay only operates under engine operation as @Sharkey suggested. I think I might be overthinking this but just want to cover my bases on the first install and not dig in there again after the fact. I appreciate all the assistance that was given!
