What Tune Should I Buy?
So I am getting bored with my GMS1 and bolt ons rather quickly. I just purchased a cheap laptop. I am open to both HPT and Trifecta. I have a spare ECU ready to go. Trifecta seems easy but you have no real info about your car available to you and you need the cable to data log. Total cost with cable is right around 500 to keep the cable. HPT has 2 suites available it looks like to me. I dont really know which to get personally. It has a ton of tuning options available to you. I am not an eperienced tuner and would be relying on other people to basicly tune my car for me. >total cost is around 550 I think with credits at start.
One thing that I do like is that Trifecta has more gimmick options for you. Duel Tune TPMS erase ect... Over all I just cant decide . Help me out here.

Depends on if you want to learn to tune or not. HPT Standard is all you need for the LNF since it has a factory wideband 02 sensor.
Trifecta will tune for you but you will never learn what Vince is doing.
Many of us on here will tune your car via email & log with you if you go with HPT and you can learn from us on the HPTuners forum as well.
It's overwhelming at first though.
I've had / done both and prefer HPT so I can do it myself.

It would be awesome if the guys familiar with lnf tuning create a thread explaining some of the stuff in the hptuners tables for the lnf and how to properly change them. I mean i picked up some stuff from the hptuners forum..which is an awwwesome resource but alot of time i feel like i missed the boat on some threads and Im way behind trying to understand. For example the DAL I know what it is but what the values represent...there is nothing explaining the tables and how to use them properly but the the annotations at the bottom when you mouse over and the proficient guy which to them these things are second nature cause they so good at what they do you dont want to bug them about it in fear being shruged off.

I dont mind learning but at same time being my only ride it is a little itimidating knowing so much could go wrong. I do like that I have the spare ECM so I can still keep my GMS1 tuned ECM on the shelf. I wish it was as simple as boost fuel and timing. But from what I have read it seems there are a ton of tunable tables. I do like trifectas select a tune and sadly I dont think HPT with do that. What else would be needed for tuning with HPT . I ordered my Interceptor as a figured codes might be a thing.

If you have HPTuners and want to learn, I tune via email as does ccss3 and explain things along the way.
We both provide a config file for logging and help you with it to get it working. Most of the people I have e- tuned are via the HPT forums, but ccss3 has been doing it over here for quite some time. BYT and Term2 have also.
Cost depends on if we need to buy credits or not, if you want us to do the tune and you just flash it, or if you just want the tables to load yourself, ect.
No doubt HPTuners can be overwhelming to a newb.

As long as you take it slow and dont go crazy with your tune your car will be fine. Hpt forum has great threads to get you started. I bought Hpt the day I got my car and jumped right into tuning. I didnt have any help form Hpt or anyone yet, but I took it slow and learned what everything did by making small adjustments and seeing how they reacted with the car. Now its like second nature to me lol

If I get more into it and want to tune friends or future cars I like HPT. I notice Iam Broke picked up a LS1 . I assume you tuned it with HPT . Do I need a special suite to tune another vehicle other than basic?

I've had the LS1 since '05 and yes, you need pro to use an external WB easily through the inputs. There are ways with standard, but you have to use an A/C pressure input, EGR input, ect through the vehicle wiring.
The WS6 is tuned for 60% ethanol, I ran out of injector DC to go any higher until I replace them.
SLP lid, K&N filter, SLP Bellows, catless y pipe & SLP Powerflo exhaust so far.

Yes, ~15 miles south of Valpo. I work in Whiting.
HPT comes new with 8 credits. Most cars need 2 per tune. The credits are locked to the VIN & ECU serial number. It takes many credits to unlock a model year license, 5 or 7, I forget.
