Smile 02 Spec-v vs. 05 SS

Hello all.

My buddy just picked up a SS about 2 months ago and I've wanted a run at him ever since. Well, the first time I ran him he just had the car 2 weeks and lets say it wasn't pretty.

Anyways, we were just cruising around last Saturday night when we happened to get next to eachother at a light. We kinda glanced at eachother and knew what was about to happen. So, light turns green and we both hit it, I pretty much spun through 1st and by the time my wanabi tires got traction, I was at his rear bumper. From then I knew it was over, we shutdown at 160km/h due to traffic with him about a full car length ahead.

We have yet to have clean runs, but I know what the outcome will be. Since then I've added Intake and a few more goodies are coming that should make it a little closer.

BTW, he is putting his car in storage for the winter, is this really necessary, I mean why spend $32K (CND) for a car you can't even drive in the winter. Why not just slap some winters on?

You SHOULD have been 2 1/2 to 3 car lengths back, your friend doesn't know how to drive.

why don't you just run him at the track instead of putting others lives in danger? sure it costs money to run at the track but at least it would be legal and you know what your car runs in the 1/4 mile. but i guess it would be more financially better to risk killing someone or getting pulled over for racing and paying all the fees and not to mention your increase of insurance after you pay over $2,000 to take your car out of the impound after 30 days.

Already have Intake, soon to come Header, full exhaust and perhaps a new clutch kit if I feel I need it. I could turbo it, but that would be pointless. Rather buy a new car.

A supercharger wouldn't hurt.

DC52NV does have a good point.....

BUT I'm selfish and pretty much all I do is street race... Racing at the track is too organized and regulated... I live my life a quarter mile @ a time

This was the only time we ran on a public road with traffic, the lanes ahead were clear and so were the ones beside so we just said what the hell. We weren't endangering anyone and had plenty of room so stop/slow down. Since I've bought the car 6 months ago, I've only raced him and this was the only time on public roads. If we want to run, which is hardly never, there are plenty of empty, straight single land highways in the "back" country where we can.

Its bad enough I pay $300/month for liability, so believe me, street racing in traffic is something I do NOT do.

thank you exhondaman....

i'm confussed when you say racing at the track is too organized and regulated though. you line up to the line, wait till the lights turn green and go. same concept as street racing from a light. sure you have your different classes but other than that it's ***** to the walls man.

yeah that’s exactly what I meant ....way to bring out a fast and the furious quote when I was talking about you taking the ***** out of your ass and not being so uptight ....nobody is going to change their driving habits based off your disapproval, there are enough penalties associated with speeding that we don’t need RSX cop over there telling us how we should be driving ...

So? You seem too conservative to own any type of sporty car. I suggest you trade your car in for a camry.

so conservative is someone who disagrees w/ street racing? wow, all this time i thought i was a law obiding citizen by not street racing and putting peoples lives in danger. do i like to race? hell yeah. do i do it in the streets w/ traffic? hell no. when i push my car to the limits it's for a reason not to see if i can beat the kid next to me to the next light.

all i know is i used to fly around residential areas at 60 mph or so.. and then some girl around the corner from me got hit by a kid racing.. and now she's brain dead. So i decided it's not worth it anymore... I'll f around on an empty highway, but not around anyone else.

Enough with the childish agrueing about street racing

There are two sides to this agruement, and both have some valid points. Its no joke that street racing can be very dangerous, but when you use common sense, you reduce that danger factor by about 95%. Don't come on here and tell me you've never run someone on the street before, because anyone who is a car enthusiast has had at least one stoplight encounter

The issue at hand is when "street racing" is appropriate and when its dangerous. When you're on an open deserted highway with your buddy at 2:00 in the morning, don't tell me its "dangerous" to do a couple runs from a roll. Same thing in town during the early hours of the morning, nobodys around, the road is straight, and you catch a light. You run the guy next to you up to the speed limit and shut down. Nothing wrong with that.

The problems come from stupid drivers who have no judjement whatsoever. Typically these people are ricers from the "F&F" crowd, driving Civics with stickers and fart cans. They think they can street race anywhere, anytime, no matter what the environment may be, even if its a busy intersection with pedestrians. When you see a street racing story on the news, what kind of vehicles do you usually see?? Thats right, ricers with tricked out econocars racing for "slips" on busy streets

Bottom line is use common sense and judgement, and we won't see you on the news getting pulled from a pile of twisted metal formerly known as your vehicle. Keep it safe, don't endanger others, and dont go faster than conditions permit.

I think most of us can agree on this, I tried to take into account arguements from both sides.

Ok, THAT kind of street racing isn't what i do. i don't go around speeding in residential areas and school zones. I do it on wide streets with little to no traffic, and on the freeway with little to no traffic. Is there still a danger? of course, but you can also lose control of your car at the track and jack you and your car up. And i don't glorify street racing, but at the same time, I don't buy fast cars to only go fast when i go to the track once every 6 months, and when i have the spare cash, and time to blow on the weekend to do it.

Street racing is just simply more convenient

The key to your post is "little or no traffic". On the strip, you never have to worry about some blue haired lady rolling through a stop sign as you buzz by at 5500 RPM in second gear. Lastly, when you splat it takes the police and ambulance a lot longer to scrape you off the asphalt than it does for the emergency squad at the track.

I'm not saying that I don't play on the street but it is very, very rare and is usually limited to an access ramp and then only up to ~75 mph. I do however go to the track for Sport Compact Only nights.
