I have an '05 SS S/C that is currently stock. My roommate just bought the new high-end sun burnt eclipse (as seen in the commercials). I've ridden in it and it's pretty quick. I think the hp figure is 263 if I recall. It's a V6 N/A.

So do I have a chance in a stock SS S/C? I don't know if there's much of a weight advantage, and I doubt there is a torque advantage. I predict it would beat me, but not by much, depending on how well each of us drive. Has anyone raced one? Thoughts/stories?

 

hes probably only got about 220 of that 265 getting to the wheelsso i think it will be a drivers race.

 

yeah, im bettin he doesn't have much more than 220 hp anywyas.. most cobalts are dynoing 210-220 so it should be a good match up.. if not put a cai, pulley, and exaust on it and you will have him for sure!

 

Just go to the track and run. I think you should take it, because they weigh around 3800lbs. Get video and post it.

 

I know I will get chewed up for this but here it goes. When i was test driving cars before I got the ss/sc, I test drove an 06' Eclipse V6. I have to say those things have NUGGET. Chirped third gear on my test drive getting onto the highway. I don't know how the race would end but we can't sleep on them.

 

Should be close, but I think we have the advantage.

 

All signs point to the Eclipse being faster! In every test, from a magazine, I see it is faster in both 1/4 mile time and trap speed. I predict that you lose unless the guy can't drive!

 

Oops. I thought I heard that they were slower, but I just looked at Motor Trend and they said 14.2 @ 100.9 mph.

the only way to know for sure is to line em up.. try to take it to the track to keep it safe.. and if he wins, do what i said before. i/e and 3 inch pulley

 

Yeah, I was kinda thinking he would beat me. The cobalt's due in the shop for some mods probably in april, so I'll see if I can get a before and after vid. Thanks for the input!

This guy dyno'd his '06 Eclipse V6 @ 247whp/247wtq stock. The Eclipses are probably a couple tenths faster than the SS/SC, but it's still a driver's race, I'd say.

 

They may have more power than the SS S/C, but they are heavy pigs. Over 3500lbs for a V6 6-speed model.

Trap speeds and 1/4 mile ET are about the same as the SS S/C, run him and lets us know the results

engine mounts
pulleys - not sure which one yet

Havent you seen the two videos of my Redline racing and 06 Clipse GT v6 M6, I smoked his ass. and the second race i still put almost 2 cars on him. I was stock and so was he, but elevation was 6000ft in Colorado springs so my F/I probably helped. Check it out its on streetfire, too lazy to look up link.

i raced a 06 v6 eclipse in my ss/sc and he got me by about 2 cars, was close until i hit 3rd but we went from a dig and he had 6 speed

........HEY GUYS WE HAVE A MAGAZINE RACER HERE! haha jk bro but all im sayin is that we cant look at specs for these cars here cause no one predicted that our high end would be good. just take a look at our trap speeds as compared to other cars. IMO, he would take a big dump on your hood off the launch with his rwd but after your powerband screams in second around 45 youll be right next to him and start pulling on him by a little just like the 350z pulls on us from a roll (very slightly) but like i said we cant look at specs cause it doesnt prove too much.... the top end on the eclipse gt could be crazy so i guess the only way to tell is to race one... good luck

My second race in my SS/SC was against a new eclipse gt and needles to say I was surprised that I walked him. Mine was stock and I don't know about his. We went from 40 and ended at 95ish. I had about a car and slowly walked him from about 50. They arent slow.

 

Maybe you should read more magazines, the Eclipse is FWD.

Come on now, you never proved that was a 6spd. and judging that it didn't chirp it's tires like it should have and they do, it was probably the Auto GT w/ traction control on???

 

if you really want I can post more footage of us next to the cars, but i dont like spammin me and my army buddies faces on the internet. just our cars, yes I drove the car before the race just to see what i was up against, I dont remember the last time I shifted an automatic with a clutch. bah maybe im just full of ****.
