05 SS vs. SRT-4

I raced an SRT-4 last night and was VERY surprised by the outcome, here's a little backgroud....
The SRT is my brothers car, it's the 215hp year(03'?). He has a BOV, other than that it's stock. He has run a 13.8@ 101 or 102 at the track. My car is stock

When I first got my cobalt we raced, I had about 1000 miles on the car. From a roll going up a slight hill he killed me, probably by about 4 cars. On the flat from a roll it was little closer, maybe 2 or 3 cars.

My car now has over 5,000 miles on it and it runs MUCH stronger, I have major traction problems that I didn't have when the car was newer.

So we raced again last night, going up a slight hill from a roll, I jumped out first bya fender(I cheated a little b/c I figured he was going to easily beat me) That wasn't the case, he couldn't catch me and up top I actually started to pull away from him. I called it a win for the SS

We raced on the flat and the same thing happened, we were side-by-side and I started to slowly pull him up top. Another win for the SS!!!

I was VERY surprised, I thought for sure he would easily beat me...

each race was from about 15mph to 110mph.

The cobalt is too hard to get off the line(and I don't want to waste any more tires practicing), plus from a roll I think you get a better read about how two cars compare. If you go from a dead stop, there's chance you'll spin too bad or bog. From a slow roll things are more equal.

You can't come back and say "if I wouldn't have spun so bad..."

True, from a roll its not really a drivers race in a way, but you can still miss a gear. But SRT-4's are even harder to launch...so ive heard

Actaully ya, when i first bought my car I knew that the the main comp was the SRT4. When I beat 2 of them world got turned around . I tried to express my happiness on here and just got flamed. I totally respect the cars seeing how they were my #2 choice. Knew I had to wait for others so i wasn't alone.

Seeing how the cars are nothing but paper weights without the drivers. I guess the drivers here either suck or all have boost leaks Either way what i promote more now than ever is that anything can happen in a race. Under ideal conditions ya certain things are almost for sure but real world is crazy and spontaneous.

My first race with an srt4 I got raped, I had 3 other people with me in the car also, so of course I had more weight. But since i've raced a white one that lives around my house and i've beat him all the times. My car has 4,000 miles now.

I don't know if there was something wrong with my brother's car, but the SRT had a WAY better driver so the DRIVER didn't lose, the CAR did. Like I said before, from a roll, the race is basically equal and it comes down to who can shift faster. My brother can shift much faster than I can. The fact is, the SRT-4 lost to the Cobalt, for what reason, I don't know but it wasn't the driver.

also, my brother ran his stock SRT to a 13.8@ 102 with 2.0 60' time. You have to be a good driver to do that 60' time on stock tires and the cobalt is the FIRST manual I have ever driven, so I've only been driving it for a few months. He's been driving and racing sticks for about 13 years.

With my run ins with srt4's, stock vs. stock, my friend pulled 1 car on me from 35-~100. From a dig, I didn't do too bad. I hung with him and then he started pulling.

Now, with my magnaflow exhaust, the same srt and driver, from 35-~100, I had half a car on him. He was stock still. I was so happy that day

when i was stock i hit 13.91....i only went to the track once...........stock cobalt ss/sc's are slow......almost every driver on here has an et of 14.5-14.8, now go on srtforums most are 13.8-14.0 stock......half a second in the 1/4 mile is a big difference

no doubt i like cobalt ss/sc's but i just think some of the drivers are dreaming...if he's ur brother make a video kthnx

i know a close freind of mine who went 13.6@103mph in a BONE STOCK SRT4.....but hey to each his own. Drivers are a big factor but i do not see how a roots style blower can pull a turbo on the top end....but good kill none the less

Boost leaks are free hp. Checked mine today while installing my new intercooler, and found that two clamps were just hand tight. Now I back to boosting 19-20 psi, with a Big FMIC. Tell your brother to look into that.

I raced an SRT4 from a 30-90 roll and I beat him...barely...he was at my rear quarter window but I think if we would have went on past 90 he would have started inching up on me b/c he was already. Can't say it's a driver thing with this one because this was 3 weeks after I got my car and also 3 weeks from learning how to drive a manual (not like a pro by any means). Im pretty sure his car was stock because I had looked at that very SRT4 at a used car lot a couple weeks before I got my car and it was factory. My car was and is stock(until my injen comes in this week). I see this guy around every now and then so sometime after the cops get thru with their commission period (thru march 8th) I will race him again and take a video.

Why does it make you giggle, I just came on here to say what happened? I said the first race I jumped ahead by a fender from the start(and he couldn't make up the difference) but my car started to pull away even more in the end and the 2nd race we were equal and I pulled him again up top.

I know SRTs are supposed to be faster than the cobalt in the 1/4, I'm NOT disputing that, and like jaydizzle82 said early about looking at the stock times and he is right, the SRTs are faster. He didn't tell me anything I ALREADY didn't know. I'm NOT dreaming, I knew the SRTs were faster before I even bought my car, but on the night we raced they weren't...

I didn't make this post to say cobalts are faster than SRTs, I know better and I'm sure that topic has been beat to death. Maybe my brother is having a problem with his clamps and I did tell him he should check them.

This week I will race my brother again and this time I will bring my camera along so I can show everyone what happens and if my brother is having a problem with his car and he fixes it and I lose, I won't be upset and I'll be more than happy to show the video. It's all for fun.....

but I still like my balt better than his SRT....
