05'LS vs 04' Mustang

One of my fellow co-worker recently purchased a 04' Mustang V6 Convt.(auto trans.). He's been showing it off at work, pwr/brking in the parking lot. (It's a sweet car I must admit!) Anyways..... Last night, after Bowling (we're in a league together), I get into the turn lane to enter onto the highway, lights red. He pulls up next me me (dual entrance lanes). He drops his rustang into neutral and rev's up the motor. I think what the hell......it's late, not alot of traffic. I shift down to 1(low), the light turns green, tires squeal, and I'm off. I pulled him by at least 3 car lengths onto the highway. I pull into the middle lane, and wait for him to catch up with me. He finally get next to me and gives me a thumbs up, then he takes off like a bat out of hell. This morning when we get to work, he come up to me and says "Wow that little car is faster than I thought!". I rubbed it in by asking him if he wanted to race again. "Not today", was his response.

Good job, you beat a heavy car with a whimpy V6 motor to go with it.

Nice kill. He was asking for it.

Also, there's a huge difference between the auto's and manuals with the 99-04 Mustangs. I've seen an auto vert run consistent low-mid 17's, but I've also run mid-15's with my virtually stock (probably slower-than-stock) 5-speed.

Again, nice kill.

Yeah, freak was just saying that the LS was wimpy, too... in addition to the wimpy Mustang.

Obviously the Cobalt was a little LESS wimpy on this occasion, however.

take away losses for drive train (auto at that) and the fact the auto is notoriously rated as sub par (with performance in mind)

Thanks Guys......... Why does every SS owner on here, dog anybody that does not have the SS. We still have a COBALT! If I wanted a race car, I'd have bought one. I did not buy this car with the intension to race everybody. (I don't have anything to prove!) I personnally purchased this car to drive back and forth to work. I drive 64 miles round trip each day. The Cobalt is fun to drive, looks good, and good on gas. I joined this forum to gain some instite and useful knowledge. Why must fellow user's bash non SS drivers, I just don't understand!

P.S. I'm sure someone will have a smart comment already...

I think you're confused. Freak's quote has a "?" at the end. HE is the one who was suggesting that your Cobalt was wimpy. I was just explaining what he meant and saying that your car may be "wimpy" but it still beat the Mustang.

Yeah, the manuals are significantly faster than the auto's. The 1/4 times are generally .5 seconds apart. With decent driving and conditions, a 5-speed will go mid-15's, whereas an auto generally runs low 16's. The 99-04 GT's are the same way... manual > auto.

Precisely. Wimpy vs wimpy = a good matchup I autoxed a Miata before I got my SS/SC. I know wimpy vs wimpy. Still a good kill in my eyes.

the auto v6's are dog slow, but the manuals are decently quick. My '00 V6 stang i used to own ran mid-high 15's in stock form. not too shabby for five years ago, and in a base model car.
