06 SS S/C vs. RX-8

coming home from work, when i merge on the highway there's a light about 200 yards ahead, almost always red so i never really get on it coming down the ramp.

i was looking back to merge and saw xenon headlights coming from behind, didn't think a thing of it, i was in a really calm mood and didn't feel like screwing around on the way home--until the xenon headlights swerved around me and a black RX-8 and i are head to head at the light. it was one of those times where you just know you're both going to rape ape off the line.

he kept creeping and creeping, trying to anticipate and get the jump, but it's one of the ones with the delayed left turn from the other side so i knew to wait a bit longer and wait for the green tint on the back of the street signs to turn red. the light changed and he chirped them off the line, i took it as easy as i could as to not spin or hop out of control. he had 1/2 a length off the line, but by second i was a hair ahead to my surprise. i missed the goddamn 2 to 3 upshift, not to my surprise, but didn't slip past dead even. took it through 3rd and a bit of 4th, and by the time 110 came around, i had a solid 2 car gap between us.

definitely pleasantly surprised with the results, especially after having missed a gear.

Thumbs up

they are cool cars but a waste of gas literally (MPG sucks for a small litre engine)

RX-8 only put 187hp to the wheels so no should have a problem walking pretty hard.

To answer the 2.4 vs RX-8 question... I ran a 9.9 in the 1/8th... and the RX-8 ran a 10.3...

They might get us once they get up in the gears.... but 0-75MPH or so their all ours.

Nice Kill, that Rotary engine takes forever to wind up, but from what I understand, once you get it reving, it screams. I think Car and Driver did a long-term test on the item and were disappointed at the 18-21 MPG so I guess we can figure out that there was no real conspiracy to kill the rotary engines back in the day. From what I understand, those things don't have much mid-range torque either.

rotaries naturally have terrible gas mileage, just look at their design.

the sport package has 232hp according to MSN Autos and the base model 212, you might want to double check your numbers, they only have about 190 at the wheels they have a worse torque curve than a Honda, and they're a bit heavier at 3053lbs compared to our 2950. it was a drivers race and i won, end of story, thanks for the BS call tho.

there have been a bunch of cars that i've beaten i just don't like to post about it. i thought beating an RX-8 was something exciting to talk about so i posted about it, it wasn't just another crappy "yo these ricers in a 92 4-door civic revved at me this one time and i dusted them hahaha" kind of story. thanks for your support.

if you doubt me then let me race your dad.
