Moved to War Stories... the Drag Racing section is for things that happen at an actual Drag Strip, not this local highway bullshit.

I couldn't agree more

A race from a roll is not "Drag Racing". They did away with rolling starts for the fuelers in 1966, (I think the Winternats '66 was the last rolling start for some of the fuelers, but I may be mistaken). Many racers relate how frustrating to explain to potential sponsors the difference between sanctioned "Drag Racing" and illegal "Street Racing" because of the misconceptions given on the news broadcasts. Traction is everybit as important as horsepower or torque in drag racing. In many cases, it's even more important. I respect someone that can make power. I have more respect for someone that can put it to the ground efficiently.

However, I have to say that's a quick cobalt. Giving up 4 cylinders is tough to do! We saw a Trailblazer SS out at Speedworld a few weekends ago turning high 14's with traction issues. Not bad for 4550 lbs! I've never actually seen a SS/TC turn a lap at the track, but I have to admit that when we do go, we usually have our hands full testing new stuff, or comparing race data and weatherstation data. Hopefully we'll catch up with some kewl SS/TC racers at the track sometime so I can watch 'em run.

high 14's is terrible in a tbss, my dad's runs mid 13's stock. if a guy was having traction problems in a tbss running 14's, he must have been mentally retarded

Well, I can't speak for his mental state...

...but he did spin quite a bit off the line, from what we were told. The track was cold enough that even we had to lower to 6.25 psi and pull a 20 block back 3.5 feet to keep the car from chirping through first. I only got to see the time on the board due to the fact that we were assisting another racer with a starter issue, and still trying to monitor the lanes so I could get buckled up and primed in time. Therefore, I didn't see the complete pass, but when we spoke to him in the pits, he mentioned that he was having "traction issues". His MPH was too high for a 14 sec pass, so I tended to agree with him.

When I spoke to him, I didn't see any signs of retardation...but you never know!!!

Well, it is an LS2

There is a lot of power to be found in that engine, if you know where to look (horsepower and torque). I can imagine that if someone built the engine right, you could still push 4500+ lbs through at even faster than that. I've never had the pleasure of driving one...so I can't say, but I hear they're fun to drive!

I like that head layout on the LSx so much that I have decided to build one for my camaro, when the time is right. It has great potential for a high, flat torque curve on pump gas, while maintaining great street manners. I'm sure that guys with those SS versions can flog that LS2 with great success.

you can hold the brake in the tbss, and when the third yellow drops flat foot the throttle and it will NOT spin out of the hole. someone needs a driver mod.

The oh so lovely anti power brake programming just like the GTO. My Silverado is similar but will roast the 245's the instant I pop my foot of the brake. It is funny as hell when people by automatic GTO's go to power brake and nothing happens, but hammer it going 10mph and it'll go sideways through first and second.

Nothing a $.01 zip tie won't fix....

Oh, but if it's stock it still has a shitload of TM/TR limiting first gear fun.
