91' Probe vs. 96' Talon ESi

Most horrific race Ive ever encountered...2 kids I work with kept talking **** about each others cars for weeks now. Well yesterday I decided were going to make them race. We go from a 40mph roll. I was in the middle of the two cars doing the beeps, and it was dead even up to about 100mph. Thats when the probe started to get ahead.

Now this is a stock 5 speed Ford Probe with the stock clutch still in it with an idiot driving it. The Talon was a 4 speed auto with a cai a muffler and the power steering belt removed. Thats a 120hp beaten up car beating a babied 150hp Talon.

I was devestaded, I thought for sure the Talon would win this...

was it a 91 Probe GT? They would be turboed if it was, they work pretty well with some basic bolt ons, in GT turbo form they have no problem getting in the 14's with basic bolt ons and a boost controller

Talon ESI with auto's are slow as hell, like probably mid to high 16s with the bolt-ons

They didnt make Probe GTs in 91', I think they stopped in 90'. And we wish this Talon could run 16s. Probably more like 18s.

Hey man, were do you guys usually race at? I noticed you are from Youngstown, I'm from Hubbard. I see a bunch of Ford Probes around my area, they think they are fast!

Actually they did have factory turbos. They stopped in either 1989 or 1990, it was a 2.2 liter turbo.

The Probe GT in 88' thru 90' maybe were 2.2 liter turbos. They came out of the MX6's. All others were n/a, with either a 2.2 4 banger or a 2.5 6 cylinder...

So much mis-knowledge.

The 2.2L Turbocharged engine which was available on the GT models for both 88-92 Mazda MX6 GT and the 88-92 Probe GT(these two are exact same powertrain with some differences). It was actually still available in the mid 90s on the 626 turbocharged models.

So are you sure that Probe was not a GT? Sounds like it was. They were either equipped with the IHI VJ11 turbo which has a boost spike around 3000RPM which is what is a killer on the auto trannies. However, you do have GTs that have extra packages. Believe it is the 4WS package which comes with a T3 turbo which is maybe another 25-50hp.

-points down to my signature- Just got rid of the pissy IHI VJ11 turbo on mine.

They weren't limited to only V6s. I think the V6 was a different model and was not labeled GT.

Well the 88'-92' GT turbo didnt come with an auto tranny. If you wanted an auto you had to get the lx or gl.

I see three Fords in your signature and you did not know Probes were turbocharged.

Go back under your rock.
