base 2.2 vs monte carlo ss

so my buddy just got a 02 or 03 monte carlo ss so we decided to run the two cars. i knew the montes werent really known for being fast but i thought for sure it would beat my car, anyways we started from a stop, i got a pretty good launch without much wheelspin and so did he (auto w/ traction) we were about dead even through my first gear then i continued to pull on him till about the end of third when i let off, he was probably 2 feet behind my back bumper when i let off. i was quite surprised and i think he was a little pissed off lol. just thought i would share in case anyone is thinking about racing one. i also raced a mid 90s grand am last night because he was cruisin around with purple underbody neons and im not going to allow that rice to drive around my town without getting OWNED. lol i easily passed him from about 5 cars back, we were both flooring it, i know cuz once i passed him i let off and he continued to floor it past me. lol yep thats all

Tha all depends. The older ones werent supercharged, but some of the the newer ones were. Same as the Regal GS and Grand Prix GTP.

the supercharged 3800's are good motors with basic bolt ons I/H/E and a smaller pulley you can get around 70-90hp at the crank. I was thinking about getting one of those and put it in my cavalier when I had it.

My moms got an 01 monte ss and its pretty quick. I thought that it would out run a 2.2 but i guess i thought wrong....I also raced a gtp the other night in my ss/sc from a dig and a couple 20-50 rolls. From a dig it hung with me but from the rolls the guy didnt stand a chance.

If your friend wants a monte tell him to get an 06 ss..Its got a 5.3L and runs very low 14's.. But if i was him i'd get the cobalt.

Good kill, I used to spank Monte's and Grand Prix's (NON GTP) alike all the time in my Alero. They have good pull from a dig cause of their torque but sloppy top end.

The Monte SS, the n/a ones anyway, was a 200chp/225 tq 4 speed auto v6, at 3400 lbs. And not only was it underpowered, and did it have crappy gearing in a 4-speed box, it was FWD. So yeah, crappy car...worse then new edge Mustang v6 autos...most are low 16's. So believable kill, nice job.

The other, not so believable, you'd have to be a few secs faster to race a car with a 5 car lead, pass it, and put some distance on it. Sounds like he didn't even floor it until you were close...i think you'd beat that car straight up but saying you won from 5 cars back is crazy, it's like those people who claim kills because they got ahead of another car in traffic

it was an old grand am, im sure it was nothing special, all i noticed was underbody lights. he was in front of me, turned, then i turned behind him, after coming to a stop after he already took off, i was able to pass him, i mean you could hear the car being floored, but it wasnt anything special of a car, its not like i flew past him but i passed him fairly easy then he continued to tailgate me and swerve through traffic after i started slowing down like he was hot **** racecar driver lol

Yeah, stock n/a Montes are REALLY slow, I would know (See sig). My moms 2006 VUE V6 beat mine by AT LEAST 5 car lengths from 0 - 70.

Not only is it slow, but it handles like a large SUV. The only thing cool about it is that it looks nice.

The supercharged ones are OK, but nothing to brag about stock. The new V8's are pretty quick, but the suspension and handling still needs work.

Newish (01-05) Monte SSs have overly sensitive traction control, there's a huge difference if you turn it off, I know from driving my mom's, not really a fast car but it moves pretty good and smoooth.
