Berret-OWNED

So,
Last night I was returning from picking up my chick-friend Melissa (Booty Call). I was on a four lane highway going 65-67mph (Speed Limit 55mph) when thge light ahead turns red, so I slowly decelerate to the light. As I'm waiting, a dark-colored Early-Mid 90's Beretta pulls up next to me, I didn't look directly at it, but the kid sitting shotgun was your stereotypical punk with the slightly sideways hat. As the light turns green, I take off normally (about 50-60% throttle) and the Beretta takes off much faster (est ~75-85% throttle), so I kinda get interested, and pace him at about 6+ car lengths. He quickly accelerates to 80, so I continue to pace him. We go about 1/2 mile, to a point where the two lanes merge into one, and he accelerates to squeeze past another car before the lane merge. I quickly close the distance and follow suit.

When we get into single lanes, he is doing about 65mph, when cars start passing us going in the opposite direction, he slows down to 45mph (toying with me, because I can't pass him because of the traffic in the opposite lane) so I stay behind him and keep about a 2+ car distance. As soon as the cars pass, he speeds back up to 65mph. Then another cluster of cars pass, so he immediately slows back down to 45. This time I'm not gonna let him do it, I quickly accelerate, close the gap between us to about 3-4 feet, then swerve right into the shoulder and pass him at full throttle.

He has little time to react, and punches it as soon as I pull into the shoulder, but his Beretta has no chance to accelerate fast enough to keep up. It takes me about 3 seconds to completely pass him and leave his ass in the dust.

I was surprised that the Beretta didn't have more ***** to keep up with me as I passed. I know for a fact that he punched the throttle because he accelerated to at least 70mph before he gave up.

Well, it was fun anyway

If that was a early 90s Berreta than it had a 3.1 6 cyl engine. I had a Z26 in 94 and it really wasn't a fast car at all.

Not all early 90's Rettas had the 3.1 V6 in em. They also had the 2.2. The Beretta came in a few different trims with everything from suspension to body kit and fog lights options being available, i.e. Base, GT, GTZ, GTU, Indy Pace car and Z26. The GTZ typically came with the HO quad 4 (2.3) but you can also find them with the 3.1 V6. The 1990 Beretta GTZ was the fastest version of the Beretta putting out between 180-195hp. I have owned 4 and did mods to each. If fixed up correctly they're pretty quick cars, not fast, unless you did the 3800 Series III supercharged swap which is a direct drop in and had been done.

In 1992 the Beretta GT with the 3.1 V6 shared the same motor as the 92 Firebird and Camaro (V6 models of course) which opened up possibilities for a decent aftermarket. because of their being aftermarket upgrades for the camaro, all you had to do was make sure your version had the T in the VIN and you were golden for buying the same parts. The Beretta was discontinued in 1996 because it cost too much to meet safety standards, which at that time would have entail installing extra support beams of some sort in the doors.

I love my 1990 White Beretta GT. Eventually, I'm planning on switching out the 3-speed auto with a 5-speed stick; the auto doesn't really seem to take much advantage of the engine's power. At least, that's how I feel about it.

There is a White turbo GTZ floating around that has ran low 13s. There is video of it. It's pretty damn sweet and it was recently sold for $4500.

The only Beretta around here is more ghetto than the ghetto. It's good to hear of some with something better than rust and a collapsing dash.

How big was the shoulder you used to pass?

About 6-7 feet wide, I had just enough room to squeeze by

Passed on the shoulder? Thats never a good idea! Glad it went well but man be careful! Racing is bad enough no need to make moves like that!

Good kill but watch it man.

If the Beretta was the 3.1L V6 most of them were 3 speed autos like my 94 Cavailer. They got good midrange but absolutley no top end. I bet when your car kicked it into 4th gear that's when you started embarrassing him.

HackAbuse you put your life in danger pulling that one. You can never tell if something is laying on the side of the road when you follow too close to the car in front of you. Besides, you were so engrossed in the Beretta you forgot everything else. You do not have to prove anything -- settle down and enjoy the ride! Don't let the idiots cause you to act the way they want you to. Yea, The Beretta driver was an idiot but he got you to play his game. We'd rather you continue posting then read about another Cobalt owner destroying his/her car and maybe getting killed....

This depends on the driver...one who is just out for a win no matter what or a good, smart driver. my senses pick up when im racing, the second i engage i am looking around, memorizing what is around me and any obstacles ahead, keeping an eye on the other driver to anticipate what they are doing.

it is all reflexes, it comes with expierence.

hack, that was a stupid move but hey...let the one who hasnt done a stupid move cast the first stone.

good kill bro, and from how you tell it, good driving!

i was driving into oncoming traffic this morning...i almost got side swiped at about 85, stupid kid not paying attention to the other cars on the road. he came over so i moved over into the opposing lane cause i had nowhere else to go. thank God i had a good half mile of open road in their lane!
