Big SS and Little SS (war story)

So I go to Lincoln College of Technology. a rare campus located in Mexico. Anyways i go for the Electronic Systems Technition program. They offer a ASE program and a Diesel Mechanic program. So everyday all the mechanical guys always look at me as I drive in and out of school like I drive some POS riced out cobalt wanna be fast big winged fart can warrior. Lots of them always say all kinds of crap as I drive by. Two of them have ran me. one was a later 90s turbo civic. pulled him good. the other was a late 90s mustang gt. tryin to find the video for that one right now.

So today one of them that was actually kinda cool asked if i'd take him and his buddy for a ride so I said sure. Now unfortunately i'm on very barrowed time with this stock clutch having about 60k miles on it 50k of which are at least 250+whp. (real dyno numbers). anyways doesn't wanna go into the next gear very easily if i shift at 7k (rev set 7200). 1st to 2nd moves just fine. 2nd to 3rd. 3rd to 4th worse and worse. so on to the drive.

After i show them what it's got just a few 2nd gear pulls one 0 to 60 we pull up to a light next to a 2010 camaro ss. definately for sure had exhaust, kinda thinking it had headers. sounded cammed at idle with the loping sort of sound coming from it so i could only assume it had an intake if he'd put that much effort into it along with i'd imagine a tune being it were cammed. light turns green I gave it one of my better launches and jumped out about a half a car ahead (very surprised at this point) then we stayed side by side with him starting to inch forward til we hit about 60 then he pulled a tad more but by then i had to let out due to the clutch issue and upcoming semi's. I was just very very surprised that i even hung with it especially from a hole shot. by the time we hit 70 he had at most half a car length. was very pleased considering the 2 passengers vs his no passengers and the fucked up clutch.

Then today on my way home from work just drivin down the highway in the slow lane 65 mph just cruisin ready to get home and relax. i spotted a silver ss up ahead so i bumped it up to 75 and got up there saw it was a supercharged so i cruised behind him for a little bit noticed exhaust he got on it a little. sounded pretty loud didn't seem too crazy fast though. finally after a few miles we got a good opening and he stomped it so i rev matched down to 3rd. got on it short shifted to 4th and raped past him. few minutes later we pulled side by side and did a 60 roll. honked it off let him take the hit. short shifted to 4th at 6 grand just to avoid any clutch issues and by the time i let out about 130ish he was at least 15-20 car lengths back lol.

we pulled off and i looked at his plate. he was from all the way out in Washington. anyways we talked he ended up only having an intake, corsa exhaust, and a torque dampener. not that great of stories i know lol. but it was just a different day compared to most as much as i drive daily.

EDIT:

yes i know lol quality is awful. this is a recording of a recording because it was recorded on my friends phone. These guys were talkin **** big time tellin me my bloody tampon peice of **** cobalt wasn't even worth racing. i asked what he thought his whp was he said maybe 260 so i kept eggin him on to race and finally he did. so we were telling him to go instead of honking.

short shifting your car and staying in it isn't going to help save the clutch. easing in to wot will save it. short shifting it puts you at a lower rpm in the next gear, which is where slipping will occur especially short shifting in to 4th and continuing wide open.

i'm not having any slippage problems. ccss3 thinks it's my pressure plate giving out. but since the issue if i go WOT I've been rolling into it instead of just matting it to the floor. but as far as slipping goes i still don't have any slip issues lol.

but yes high gear low rpms bad bad for clutches. I use that method to check my clutch for slip occasionally. put it in 3rd going about 20 and put it to the floor or in 5th at 40

i thought it was pretty badass honestly. sounded loud and mean as hell. he stayed in it after i let off and it looked pretty fast pullin away as i was coasting lol. i thought he was gonna land in the back of a semi. lucky he's got giant brembos to slow his big ass down

nahh.. when i shift at anything much over 6 grand the pedal starts to have resistance and it doesn't wanna come back up like it normally would so i have to pump it 3 or 4 times to get the normal feel back.

i can tell you with that mod list. even if it's full exhaust intake and a tune you'll pull one and you'll pull it even harder with an HPTune

only reason i say that is my friend has a 2010 with longtube headers, full 3" catback catless exhaust, 5" intake and an up to date dyno tune and from a 40 roll it's a drivers race with my 4th gear edging ahead.

my dyno numbers are a little lower than what my power was probably today also though. maybe not by much, but a little. the dyno day was 70* and he shut me off at 6800 rpms for whatever reason. even though i rev to 7200. today the run it was like 37* so i'd imagine i made a little more power than my dyno'd 280. but also like i said about the mods i'm just going off of what it sounded like. for all i know since i didn't talk to him he may have been stock with exhaust or something. sounded like it definately had more though.

oh and also on the dyno they only had 1 of those little fans blowing.... so i'd imagine some timing got pulled on my runs.

it coulda been. it was very loud so i'd be surprised if it was just exhaust. and like i said it sounded as if it were cammed. i don't think it was because if it was i'm sure it woulda raped me hardcore. but sitting at the light with the window down it had the loping kind of sound that aftermarket cams tend to give. i'll have james chime in to tell what all my tune has to maybe make more sence of it.

Im here, the tune is on a 11.5 mid range to a 12.5 afr top end (60s) on ethanol btw. His 2.9 and i dont beleive he has any other supporting mods to cool iat2s. But anyhow he is running 26* up top, ramping throughout the midrange to the 26 to make it a nice linear curve. 0 kr. The car has clutch issues like nick is stating and the lsj pressure plates are known to go bad. Same with the slaves. If there are any other questions ill be glad to chime in!!! His car did his power with a fan the barely blew air and a dyno the the car was moving all over on. So im sure today his car was putting some higher numbers down..!!
