If he is a decent 5spd driver and you have an auto, he will most likely win, especially from a roll, if that is what you plan on racing from. They dont make much power, but they are light as hell. My Wife used to have a 2000 GTS with 6spd and I actually enjoyed driving it.

That is correct, alittle less power than the 2.2 Cobalt, but they weigh 400-500lbs less, and the Celica is a 5spd compared to his Balts auto.

I'm assuming you'll be in a 2.4 Cobalt? If so, I see no reason why you would lose unless you make a critical mistake. I've personally witnessed a friend with a stock Celica GTS lose to another friends Dodge Caravan with an intake, lol. It was very funny, that was years ago.

Go put the hurt on him.

PS: Learn to launch from a dig and then race the guy from a dig. You have a HUGE advantage in torque.

Hmm, I stand by my last post. If a caravan can do it, so can you. Do it from a dig.

A good driver in a 6spd Celica GTS runs high 14's stock and would put a hurtin on a 2.4 SS or Sport, and especially on a f*cking Caravan. The automatic GTS', which I'm sure is what raced this Van, runs in the 16's for crying out loud.

he's racing a GT.. not a GT-S. GT's put down roughly 124whp. i forget the max tq but it's around 3200rpms and they are more suited for digs than the gt-s but lack top end hp and tq. from a roll you will have him and from a dig it might be close. but i favor the 2.2 over the gt on this one. good luck and keep us posted!!!

oh.. and VIDS PLEASE :P

180hp stock, most dyno around 160-165whp and they only weigh like 2500-2600lbs. Nice 6spd manual tranny. They have VVTL-I, which is like Honda's V-tak, LOL.

V-tak i hated the auto gt-s.. the GT's beat it all day long! but that 6-speed is deadly! redline @ 8400 rpms!!! can be raised to 8600 safely with pfc. can go past 9200 with work!

oh.. forgot max hp @ 7200rpm and max tq @ 6800rpm

Hmm, I think the fastest stock Celica GTS with 6spd was like 14.7, but average was around 14.9-15.0, they are hard as hell to run great times in, gotta be a great driver.
