Cobalt SS vs RSX Type S (stock)??
Just curious....new member here. Was a chevy fan years ago when they had performance cars aside from vettes. Ended up with an 03 RSX Type S. Haven't test drove an SS yet but was curious as to how they fair against the 05 Type S. I've heard close 1/4 mile times but wanted an unbiased opinion (might be hard to get here).

I have raced two RSX'S' and beat them.
From a roll they are fairly even, however the SS does still pull slightly away. But out of the hole it's Usually a two car length victory.
Throw a blower on the rsx though and it's a whole other story.

Looking at the specs I'd figure the SS should win by a few car lengths but looking at the times most drivers are pulling (high 14's low 15's) i'm not so sure. The SS puts down about 207~215+ hp and 180~190 ft/lbs and from what I've been seeing the 05 Type S is putting down around 170whp and 140ish (not sure) ft/lbs. Their weights are similar so either the SS is slower than it should be or maybe the drivers suck .

welcome to the site. stock for stock the cobalt SS will win. throw in i/h/e/#4 on the type S and it will be a close race. go F/I on the type S and you will win for sure. just depends on how much you wanna spend and if you are going F/I or N/A. post some pics of your rsx type S.

The SS is capable of trapping a few mph higher, and since they both will be traction limited off the line, the SS should win. The SS is capable of low 14's... the 05-S has done a best of 14.5 or so. Driver could certainly make the difference, but the SS 'should' be faster.

Basically a RSX Type-S best run is about equal to the worst runs of a SS/SC. With the exception of a couple 15 second runs.
A RSX's HP and TQ numbers sound good but look bad on paper and even worse on the street. I guess when I bought my SS/SC the RSX didn't even cross my mind as far as being a threat.

I wish I could race a Type-S! I've had 2 chances to race one and each time I couldn't get them to go. Maybe next time. Raced a Prelude V-TEC 2.2L last night though. I wasn't trying at first but when I noticed he was going I hit it. I didn't even shift hard from 1st to 2nd gear, plus I didn't go to near redline from 2nd to 3rd and I wasted it!!

yeh..one of the guys here in Phx is putting out about 320 to the wheels with a turbo...it is insane and is his daily driver. He's just waiting for SS's and SRT-4's.

I think he was talking about twin-charging the SS (super and turbo charged).

I've raced lots of stock RSX's and I dont consider myself a good driver but I've pulled away greatly each time, but remember those things are all engine! we have SUPERCHARGERS!
