Cool Right

I have an 02 cavalier LS sports coupe. I blew the engine with ZEX and the new engine only has 25,000 miles on it. The cav has about 140 stock. Even when my CAV was running with and intake, plugs, exhaust, and ZEX there is no way it would have kept up with my cobalt. I was running high 9s in the 1/8 mile with it. Unless this guy has put some major work into it there is no way. This is in respect to the SS/SC of course. Now as far as the others I could not tell you the numbers look simular with the cobalt having higher torque., but I will not comment on a car that I have never driven. Maybe on of the guys with the 2.2 can help you out with that.

it would be a drivers race although the Cavalier is slightly lighter than a Cobalt...

this is 2.2L we're talking...

I have a 2.2L Cobalt. While it was at the dealer for warranty work, They gave me a
Cavalier to drive. (Couldn't talk them into a Vette!) I had the Cav'y for about a week.
I drove it lot harder than my own car. The Cav'y only had about 22,000 miles on it, so it probably wasn't too worn out yet! Anyways.... A 2.2L Cobalt would definitely beat it!

Strictly on paper, the 2.2 Cavi has the advantage in weight savings, but like someone else said it would be a drivers race, also would matter if both cars were stick or auto.

My cavy (Intake & Exuast) feels like a vette compared to the cobalt I test drove... but then again I didnt test drive it as fast as I drive my own... I would asssume it would be close

I raced a 04 2 door 5 speed that had a fart can, i got him out of the hole every time but after 3rd gear he'd start walking me, raced him a bunch of times to 105(till mine shut off), he'd edge me out by a fender at about 90mph. I also had a fat passenger, he was solo.

Stock for stock I'd say they'd be about dead even, only reason I think he edged me out is because he didn't have his casket of a muffler still on.

I want to race my 2001 Z24 against a 2.2 or 2.4 Cobalt one of these days.

My only mod is the removal of the POS air silencer/resonator and I have no problems with newer 2.2 Ecotech Cavaliers and Sunfires.

My 2001 Z24 is a 5-Speed, I would hope I can at least take a 2.2 Cobalt.

I mean geez the 2.4 SS runs low 15's, I know my Z24 is at least a mid 15 second car.

Stock vs stock 2.2L vs 2.2L I'm saying even. Both running like 11's in the 1/8. I have beaten scss cobalts with my 05 cavalier. But I have 4 engine mods, N20, and weight reduction. A stock 05 Cavalier vs a stock scss......the scss by 2+ seconds in the 1/8.

well i know for a fact that the 2200 cavalier made thru 2000-2001 would get smoked by any cobalt stock for stock and most likely mod for mod, the 2.2 eco engines i think the cobalt would beat the cav by a small ammount and mod for mod it could be anyones game, also i think the z24 engine could be beat by any cobalt as well

I found some old road tests of the 2.4 TC Z24 (1995-2002)

In the 1/4 it ranged from 15.4-15.6 and 0-60 was 6.8-7.2

As for the road tests of the 2.2 Ecotec (2002-2005)

In the 1/4 it ranged from 15.6-16.1 and 0-60 was 7.1-7.6

After driving every newer coupe Cavalier I could find I kind of thought that the Ecotec lacked some ***** vs the 2.4 TC.

It's more of a drivers race (manuals) with the z24 having the edge (compared to the 2.2 eco). The 2.4 has a better low-end and I think it's a little lighter. I drove an auto 2.2 and it had no low-end with a decent mid-range compared to my cav (z24). it would definitely be playing catch-up in a race, from a stop at least.

What do the 2.2 Cobalts run?

I highly doubt that a 2.2 Cobalt would be a drivers race for a 2.4 Z24. If the Cavalier with the 2.2 is slower than a Z24 2.4 how is a Cobalt 2.2 going to keep up?

Yeah if you're talking 2.4 pre-Eco Cavi then I'd definitely give the edge to the Cavi.

My girlfriend drives a 1996 Sunfire SE with the 2.2 Auto.

That car is just like my 1996 Z26 the transmission is geared way to high so performance suffers big time.

The redesigned 2.2 in 98 helped but it was still a snail.

no one said it was fast, even or just slightly faster than the 2.2L cobalt. No need to mag race just look at the times people run here and then go to jbody.org and look at the times people pull with stock z24's, Usually no more than .1~.3 difference.

well my point is that a bigger supposedly more powerful engine (the z24) is hardly pulling on a 2.2 liter engine with less power and more weight, and those arnt mag times those are from dragtimes and from the forums

I know for a 100% fact that the 2.4 TC is faster than the 2.2 Eco in the Cavaliers.

My 1993 Z24 ran several 15.9's and 16.0's and my 2001 will easily put 3-4 cars on it in the marked 1/4.

The 2.4 TC Z24's are mid to low 15 second cars.
