Yeah but still at the track an EVO runs a 13.1, so without the AWD that we dont have what would you add to that time? i.e. What would we run in comparison? Remember he beat the EVO by a car

 

Just an observation Darksun, but you seem to bash on the cobalt every chance you get. Is this intentional? Don't take this wrong, I've just noticed it a lot from you.

 

AWD will always own from a dead stop, but being able to pull and EVO from a roll is quite impressive still. Performance in my mind doesn't just stop at the track. It is an all encompassing concept. In traffic, on the highway, on the dragway, and in the twisties. People need to stop and take the time to get out of the straight line mindset. 1/4 mile times are great "Bragging rights," however 1/4 mile times don't give an accurate portrayal of the car's potential in my eyes.

Needless to say bdwarr6 you did an excellent job of proving the SS Supercharged has the potential to compete at a higher level.

If the EVO didn't have AWD and was RWD it would be faster in the qtr. Not slower. If it was FWD, it would be tons faster then you guys from a roll. Not slower.

Yeah It seems that way but I just like to call it staying grounded. Since I own a cobalt how much could I really hate the car if im spending 300 dollars a month to own one? I just comment when I read unthought out comments like "yeah now we can beat evo's." Well one stock for stock we could beat or nose them out from a second gear roll so watching one do it is fun and all but the comment like it wasn't able to be done before just got to me. Second maybe I missed it but I still havent seen a list of mods for the Evo and it's bothering me because I wanna kinda get an idea at where his car is traping at but we don't know how fast the Evo is. If you think I'm hating on the kill not at all, a kills a kill but im just wondering about specs and traps and other things. Like I know he beat that evo but to me it took him a little bit of time and he didn't state what speed or gear the race started from. So i don't know if he cought him by 40 or 120, know what i mean? Next I love close races like the one in the video an all but if the kill took him till 120 on to finish the guy off its more of a evo sitting on his overdrive gear while the cobalt is still sitting on his 4th gear which is still close to a 1:1. So it wouldn't be that the cobalt over powerd him it would be that the evo ran outta good gear. Now thats all my thinking but I don't know because I don't know any key points of the story behind the race. And I might always come off as negitive most of the time but thats mostly because of the cobalt owners around my way who talk trash about how they run 13's yet there stock and throw out random horsepower numbers when they've never been to a dyno before. So you can say maybe im the one who always likes to squeeze the lemon when everyone else is having fun but i'll never complain or bring up negitive facts for no good reason. Its not like you see me going on to every pro cobalt race thread and ruining the party?

Thats what im saying we know his mods but have no idea what he could be traping. Than we have the evo that he raced but no stats on that car so we don't know if it was reflased, turbo swaped, Turboback, nothing. Thats what getting to me. I kinda feel left outta the loop information wise.

 

I think it would be faster RWD than FWD. Yes there is more drivetrain drag, but the weight is shifted to the drive wheels on RWD, not away like in a FWD.

Darksun280: I agree with your asking questions, there are some different variables to consider. I also see where you are coming from with the "grounding" or as I like to call it a reality check. That's one thing I hate about some of these posts is some people just fly away in their visions of grandeur.

 

I hear you. Sometimes I am a little bit to negitive, but I'll check myself a little bit more if I catch myself start hating for no reason.
I just don't want it to start turning in to us talking **** about cars we beat from rolls with our new upgrades but than the cobalt owners go to the track and bust out 13.9's all day with stage II kits and nothing better. I Don't want us turning into laughing stocks. Theres enough people hating on our cars as it is lets not give them a reason too.

 

Faster as in 1/4 mile time or trap speed?? Because if the Evo was RWD instead of AWD, it would be running high 13's to low 14's. The trap speed might be slightly faster due to less weight from the AWD system and less drivetrain loss, but not by more than a few MPH.

 

High 13s??? How do you figure? M3s with RWD 333hp run 13.1s and weigh 3400lbs. EVOs without AWD will weigh what?? 3000-3100lbs? They have 286hp... with the right tires they could break 12s. But we are only speaking hypethetical so we could both be wrong.
