Cobra vs TC

Soooo, I spot a white SS/TC on a main road here in town and hes got his window down. It appears stock s, so I try to ask him whats done to it but the light turns green. I gas it a little to let him know Im interested in a friendly run. So we got to 40ish and go... He got the hit so I floor it in second, tires only spun a little. I only got to about 5500ish in 2nd and was about 3 inches in front. His car was pretty stout in the low end which was a little surprising. That was the only run we got becasue of traffic ahead. Afterward he turned and a little red toyota truck started revving at me. To the guy in the TC: Good little run, hope to see ya on an empty highway soon

None. I was very surprised by how well he kept up (even with some tire spin). My car is capable of trapping 120+ and he hung in there!

It's funny to see how bad some peoples reading comprehension is.

The race was from 40 to 5500rpm in 2nd gear, which is about 65mph. So the TC got the hit, the Cobra spun, and still pulled it to 65 which would have come about 1.3 seconds later.

Good kill...

Alright TC guys, the TC was stock! So now you know you can hang right next to a pullied 120 trapping Cobra, and pull them with exhaust and an intercooler; go.....

I guess good race OP? How did you measure your 3 inch win?

If he's trapping 120mph the TC woulda fell flat in a longer stretch race. On average a bone stock TC traps what, 101 to 105 (based on our altitude, wheelspin, etc. and my observations at the strip)...far cry from 120mph . Nice to see someone giving the car props even after a win...forum needs more level-headed members like this guy .

what kind of turbo celica? like the stock turbo all trac or a aftermarket turbo? because there will be a huge difference and the celica will lose unless its the gts with a huge turbo on it. running 11 second 1/4's.

So, you have a built celica turbo and your only putting down 272whp? Sounds like a tc with a tune would probally beat you. Evolve, sounds like you need some drag radials and a driver mod so you can stop roll racing your cobra. I just got rid of my 96 cobra, bought the HHR SS for a good family vehicle. I had just about everything I could do to my cobra done except the rear suspension, tune, and some forced induction. Full bolt on car, tubular front suspension, built rear end but it was only a low 13 high 12 car with heavy deep dish 17s and drag radials.

The gts only weighs like 2500 lbs. 272fwhp @ 2500-2600 lbs is not too bad really. That would probably be right around a tune/full bolt on ss/tc.

yes.. it only put down 272 on the dyno a few weeks ago and i've made some adjustment to my map since then. i'm still tweeking the tune on it. you should have seen it when i just got it back from the shop. it was at 213. tuning it is a bitch but i'm slowly getting it up there. give evolve a break!!! this is his first RWD car...

btw!! love the sig cakeeater!!!

Driver mod? Hmmm. I came from an AWD car that I didnt have to worry when it came to the traction dept. This RWD thing is new to me, Id like to see you launch an Evo at 6k without bogging: do that and then you can talk about the "driver mod".

Your car has gotten ALOT faster since you first put the turbo on, I can honestly say you will spank Mat(stock 04 Cobra) when the time comes. I ran him with an intake and exhaust and beat him by two cars btw. Also, you are making more than 278 now man, trust me.

Definately not. His car weighs about 2500lbs, with his stereo steup. Think about it.

Tuned TC could be 320 whp and 2900 lbs so it is about the same power to wieght ratio although the TC probably would make a ton more average torque and be shifting at a lower rpm.
