Dig races with a 5.0 stang

Had a run in with a friend of mines 87 mustang lx 5.0. I just have my stage II and snow tires., he has 4.10's mickey tompson ET street tires, 1.72 roller rockers a KB/eagle combo(whatever that is) 9.5-1 a fresh T-5 and new clutch. Both races from a dig. I did pretty good in the first one...got a slight jump off the line, and the second one i had a little issue with first gear clutch slip. Anyways, on to the video!

Good run! Stock 5.0s arent really that impresive stock but can be made very fast very cheap.

Couple questions though. Was that his engine in the picture or just one you got off the internet. If it was and then your friend doent know what hes talking about mod wise or lyed to you. Also what are your mods and what do you run in the 1/4 mile?

Here is what doesnt make since:

* A KB is a Kenne Bell supercharger which with that alone would sad to say have pulled you VERY badly if you are stock or even slightly moded.
* Eagle is a brand of forged internals which he said are at 9.5-1 compression which is a lower compression for blower cars. If he has that then it means hes running quite a bit of boost.
* 1.72 roller rockes are internal componens in the engine and work with your cam(s), he only has one cam in this case. If thats true he would have put a new cam in his car since he would have been taring into his engine and if he didnt he an idiot.

Like I said good race but he definatley doesnt have all of that done to his car.

The KB/ Eagle combo may be a piston/ rod combo.

Some guys have opted for switching from a 1.61 roller rocker to a 1.72 to get a bit more lift while keeping the stock cam profile and also not needing to notch the pistons.

nice video, ive got no headache or eye strain from trying to watch it... only thing i dont understand is the whole honk thing... i dont think its really fair... i mean the person doing the honking is almost always going to get the jump because they know when theyre going to push it... if that makes any sense

Since when is taking the valve covers off tearing into your engine?

lmao, a 5.0 engine there isn't much that is tearing it apart, i'll take those apart all day long... the hard part is dealing with the rest of the car, lmao.

Its not the fact that its hard to work on a 5.0 but its still the fact that you are opening up the engine to replace parts. Why would you do that and not put a new cam in while your at it. Also he said that it has forged internals thats not tearing into an engine?

thanks keith. I wish he left the camera going on the second race a little longer. I do pass him up top and i was gaining on him. He's always going to kill me out of the hole, but i'll reel him in.

and yes, that engine pic is his engine. the KB/eagle set-up he's refering to must be a piston/rod/cam combo and he does have 1.72 ratio rockers and electric drive water pump. he has no other belt driven accessories...just alternator. Its also heavy. he has a full cage in the thing.

also, my mods at the time are GM stage II. like it says in the video. I have nothing else. I was running my winter rims and tires which are a little lighter than stock so i'm sure that helped a bit.

I somehow managed to bog it on the start of the second race. I was trying to not let it out at too high of an RMP to limit wheel spin and i guess i let it out too low.

We are going to run again when the weather gets a little better out (I.E warmer!) So we both will actually have some traction and both races will get to 100 this time...we ended up only getting up to like 75-80. I will also have some more mods then. since the race i have installed a fujita CAI and will be getting some exhaust stuff and a 2.9" pulley soon.

Since we did races from a dig like he wanted, now he's going to have to do a roll with me since he got his request.
