Just lost to an sti

I was on a highway near my house going about 75 when i saw a wrx pulling up behind me so i shifted down to 4th let him get next to me and i looked at the kid and he pulled a little and we both gunned it i had probably about 2 car lengths on him (not positive) i shifted to fifth around 110 and he blew by me, i was in complete shock i thought i had it haha guess not. I thought i had read alot of people had beaten sti's but not sure. It didnt look like he had any mods and he didnt have an exhaust cause his car was quiet. I dont know maybe i just cant drive haha

If it was really an STi ya no way your gonna beat him, but nice try and if it was a WRX you might stand a chance but that Awd will get ya everytime.. Nice try though, could have lost to something worse..

from a roll....? fwd>rwd>awd from a roll...reverse it for dig racing. did you see the front of it well? did it have the bugeyes, the 04 lights or the new ones with the ugly ass grill. basically was it ugly, uglier, or ugliest? wrx's are good performers but god damn man those things are ugly.

Ditto, 3rd is about 60-65 to 105-110. Running the highway at 70-75 drop it down to 3rd and see how much it pulls, it's pretty impressive. If you were pulling out of 4th I would imagine things would be quite sluggish.

Hey hey, go easy on the Hawk-eye. The car is pure sex. Bug-eyes and Blob-eyes also pretty damn good looking IMO too. Oh yeah, HP>Fwd.

in terms of wrx vs ss/sc...not from a roll... that's why i asked what lights it had. anything but the newest gen wrx's (not sti) are nothing big from a roll. personally, i think the imprezas can look REALLY good with some work, but stock i just don't like the way they look. no offense, they just look really plain to me.

I wasn't saying the WRX is better from a roll because of HP, I was just pointing out the limitations of the FWD set up. Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages. Now as far as looks go, yeah most people don't like the way the 06 and higher WRX's look, it's all taste. They're probably going to do a refresh in 08 to address that point. I like them though.

The STI is a AWD car and if it was a 06-07 one, they have 300hp. They wipe their asses with our cars.

Though on looks, I think the newest one slook by far the best. I'm not a fan of the older Impreza's looks, though I respect their power. lol

The limited has no wing, at all. And there will only be 800 sent to the US.

It's either an 04-05 STi that someone decided the wing was too big on, or an 04-05 WRX that decided vinyl adds horse power.

well does anyone know where 110 will put you in fourth gear? it is not necessarily always best to downshift to a gear that runs out soon after. i make peak power at 5420 so i shift just over 5500 instead of going all the way to the 6k redline. technically i make more power that way right when i shift into the next gear. my gearing is really tall tho at 3.31:1. i can hit 125-130ish in fourth and you guys have i think 4.05:1 final drive right? making assumptions as to ratios in each gear, 4th should top out around...120 maybe a bit less? so he wouldn't necessarily want to downshift. the time it takes him to downshift, he could have already made up for the extra oomph of downshifting by just flooring it in fifth...im not sure on your gearing tho so somebody who knows all of your ratios (not just final drive) can you list them?

STis arent slow just because they are awd, so please disregard that misconception. He probably wasnt stock, but then again we will never know. Its ok that you lost bro, we all do sometiimes.

ugh how many times do we have to go thru this. awd robs more power. obviously the sti isn't slow because of it, but the sti isn't a slow car at all. the reason i said that is because somebody earlier said that he should always take him BECAUSE of the awd which is the total opposite of the truth, the awd is partly what hurts the sti from a roll along with other factors when comparing cars with close chp numbers. there is no denying that. just go back and read the thread again and you will understand why i said that.

yea rex's and sti's are awesome cars and for anyone living in a climate where awd is pretty much needed and you want performance they are the perfect car, but when i was looking at rex's i decided, for that much money i could get a gt or put a turbo/blow/NA build my 6. for the price of an sti i could put a 2.6L kenne belle on a gt and put down 500 to the wheels

but...sigh...awd launches still make me tingle.
